I was browsing through Reddit and found this AskReddit thread where the top comment is happily from the first (maybe not?) owner of Wisdom.com!

He shares his personal, heartfelt tale of how his foster dog inspired him to reggae Wisdom.com for FREE (cuz 90s lol) and then sail it for $475,000.

I PM'd him to let him know I was sharing his story here.

Here is the link if you want to read the whole thing:

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Wow.

What an amazing domain to own.

Thanks for the share.

And now? wisdom.com does not resolve O_o :banghead::wideyed:
At a minimum, I would have enjoyed reading the homage about the guy's dog.

I suppose we do have the wayback machine . . .
:peeking:

Not seeing anything about his dog, but rather a wisdom quote webpage.

He says in follow-up comments that the reason why the price went so high is because he didn't want to sell it because of his dog... so he kept turning them down...

if WBTM doesn't show any pages about his dog, idk. I don't think he's lying because the story sounds really similar to domaining stories lol... e.g.: turning down offers a lot, then getting a massive one.

I found another domaining story in that thread, someone reggae'd a domain in 2000 then sold it at the height in 2008 for five figs or something. They didn't reveal the domain though :/

Another reddit member actually brought up an interesting point: Are people who got their .coms for free in the 1990s and kept them until today grandfathered in, meaning they still don't have to pay renewals?

I believe it's no. Because ppl on nP say they're paying renewal fees now when it was free in the 90s. The renewal was liek $100 at one point.
