Stop the Choking Game

I saw this on my local news station and thought that this is worth talking to kids about. I've witnessed this in my days in school, at a lower degree than it is happening now.

What is the Choking Game?
The Choking Game achieves a brief high or euphoric state by stopping
the flow of oxygen containing blood to the brain. Sometimes children
choke each other until the person being choked passes out. The pressure
on the arteries is then released and blood flow to the brain resumes
causing a "rush" as consciousness returns. Playing this game in any form
causes the permanent and cumulative death of large numbers of brain
cells. The variation in blood pressure may also cause strokes, seizures,
and retinal damage..

Please spread this to adults you know, and talk about it to kids, and make them realize that this game can cause lifelong damage and even death.

Yep I've heard of people doing it.. when I mentioned it people weren't surprised... they seem to know exactly what i'm talking about

That's actually very interesting, because I'm currently in highschool myself. However, I don't really see people doing this "choking game" anywhere. Also, my classmates seem to be quite nice people and I doubt they'd be choking each other or shoplifting.

You can't stop kids doing what they want to do if you ask me.
You can warn them of the dangers, but you can't stop them/

It's really ashame people are dying so young from not knowing better.

but they never will, because there's probably about 5 kids who have ever done it, and a lot of people over-reacting

Every day another child is affected by this activity whether it be by death, a friends death or injury, or an tragic incident of The Choking Game in their community. 5 Kids who have ever done it is an enormous under reaction! Tragically, there is an ever growing list regular kids who are now Victims of the Choking Game, deceased and permanently injured.

My single piece of advice - now that you are aware of the Choking Game - TALK TO YOU CHILDREN and Talk to every parent you know! It's an opportunity I desperately wish I'd had before Dylan passed away. I was unaware this 'game' even existed. He was playing The Choking Gamw and it got away from him. This little guy thought he could control it by just standing up at the exact moment before passing out - he couldn't- and his own body weight continued to apply more and more pressure... Even a Doctor would have a difficult time distinguishing the exact moment of pending unconciousness.

Please learn from my tragedy, help prevent other families from losing a smart, silly, ray-of-sunshine part of THEIR family by passing along the information.

And yes, what some of you have written rings so true - what a stupid idea - why would kids even think to do this to each other or themselves?? Keep in mind, they are children. They think like children. It's not illegal, it's not drugs any child who is trying to be on the straight and narrow would look at The Choking Game as simply getting a rush from passing out, fainting's no big deal, right? They are children, they think they are invincible. So innocent to the mechanisms of their bodies, that they experiment without knowing the limits. So innocent to death itself - nothing can ever hurt them.
Take the naievity out of this activity, chances are your children already know the Choking Game, the information they lack is the dangers. Show them the pictures of kids who are just like them and have died from 'playing' this 'game'.
Show them this is REAL, it's serious, and it's NOT A GAME.

First off, I'm sorry for your loss. He looks to me very friendly and gentle in the pictures on your website.

My reason for this thread was to spread the word of something preventable. The point you illustrated I could not have illustrated enough. Knowledge can save lives.

I know it must be hard, but I give you all the credit in the world for taking a stand and creating a website that can help other unknowing parents and mentors to disperse this information.
