Sorry but I would NEVER adopt. If I want a son or daughter I want him or her to have MY genes.
Why should I raise someone elses kid because they couldn't use some type of birth control?

You don`t have to raise someone else`s children, it`s not compulsory, chill out!

As stated just few posts above, your children will never have 100 % of your genes, but just 50 %. The other half will be coming from someone that you THINK to know. Then 10 years later (if you are lucky) you may realize you did not. Or are you going to clone yourself?

I would not be able to do that.

I remember people in Italy telling me during War World 2, people used to eat cats in Rome but never heard people eating eachother. I have seen the movie of the plane on the Andes where they did that and comes from a true story but I won`t have the stomach nor the desire nor the will to do such thing.

And I still think we`ll ran out of water first, much earlier than food. Unless we make it possible to drink sea/salt water....which I`m not sure if its viable. If it is, then one of the biggest problem will be temporally solved.

This is a really odd post but I think people should really take all this into consideration before having children. I think the idea of parent licenses is a good one. But, obviously there is no way to enforce something like that...LOL

I'm not against *babies*. I'm just against idiots.

And, since it seems like the world is (at least) 50% idiots, that means there's a good chance those babies are going to grow-up to be idiots.

Not all people who were adopted were put up for adoption because their parents couldn't use birth control.

That's a really ignorant statement.

How about kids whose parents die? No family, therefore the state takes the kids and puts them in the foster system.

Not everyone can have kids. I hope that if you are married and choose to have kids, neither one of you have fertility problems, because it IS fairly common.

Do you know how many families are waiting through the anguish of child adoption? They'd do ANYTHING to have one of those kids.

Ok, after reading Galel's wonderful heartfelt statement regarding adoption, I would like to retract my comment about the world having too many idiots.

Somehow it just doesn't seem very funny after that.

But still.. there ARE too many idiots.

Galel is right.... and -db- has my respect for the retraction.

My sister was one that went through hell to have a child. It took years and medical treatments.
It wrecked her and she will never have another. Her son, and my nephew, has grown to be an
"idiot" but I love him none the less. My sister loves him dearly and does not regret her efforts.

There are many reasons a child might not have parents in his/her life, but one thing is for sure... no matter 'what' the reason, it's not the *child's fault*. He/she didn't ask to be born. But now that they're here, they deserve to be cared for like any other child.

*Unless it's a very bad child, and large, capable of weilding heavy weapons, in which case it is possible the child is at fault for not having parents, because he KILLED them*

Let's be fair. We can all agree that most people in the world are stupid. We may disagree on which people those are, though. As far as young people being stupid...have you never kept a journal?

I kept a journal shortly after college for a year or two. I reread it 20 years later. I learned that I was at least as stupid as many young people I meet today, and yet my kids are (so far) happy and well adjusted.

Now, of course, I am much smarter.

Some people think state oppression is the cause for this. How can you be charitable when government takes, and wastes, most of your hard earned money?

I guess only rich people can.

Hopefully one day I will be able to help some but am afraid there will be too many to help.
