Stock Market Contest 04.01.01

Well as said I will be doing this again

I hope there is still the same interest now with the merge .

Here's how it works:

Each entry will cost 75 NP$
Limit one choice per contestant
Maximum 10 contestants

Each contestant will choose a NASDAQ or NYSE listed company (no mutual funds, hedge funds, etc.), prior to market opening on Jan 5. At the end of the week, Jan 9, the contestant that chose the stock with the highest percentage gain, wins 85% of the pot. I am an avid stock trader and have the programs needed to keep track of the contest. Each day of the contest, I'll update the standings so that everyone has an idea of how well their "investments" are doing. When sending the 75np$, make sure to note your selection for the contest with either the full name of the company or the stock symbol. Thanks and good luck to all!

You can sign up until 10pm Sunday Night Hawaii time. This gives most of you extra time.

Dont worry about the pot of np I will not mysteriously dissappear unless I die.

That's the idea. I'll use the same stock-picking method employed in the past four contests, submit a "short" order before Monday open, and close the short just before Friday close. I believe the odds are good that I'll have similar results.

"Shorts" are VERY risky (what if the stock went through the roof and you had to buy it back - at the elevated level - in order to then cover the loan?)! :tri:
Buy some "puts", instead.
PS. You won't have similar results five times in a row, Apollo ... I'll give you the early edge in the next Contest. Odds have it!

I've always been long on equities, but I usually don't outperform my favorite mutual fund. I won't bet the entire the farm on shorts, and realize that I won't be successful 100% of the time, but it should be a nice addition to my strategy.

Only a minority of stocks have really active options trading, and for these I may opt for puts instead of shorts.
