I recently participated in auctions (snapnames and enom) for statefram.com ( someone paid $9300 for it) and statefam.com
I wonder if these domains would not have TM problem with Statefarm ?

Yes, there would definitely be TM problems with State Farm. Whatever Nimrod bought one of these for $9300 must like living on the edge.

This is what is known as typo-squatting.... depending on useage.

I noticed some typos sold for big $ on snapnames and enom, such as:
paypale.com
mypsace.com (35K)
myspac.com ($31k)
ebumsworld.com ($27k)
statefram.com (9k)
also paypol.com is for sale on sedo....

so I wonder when exactly a typo violates a TM...

Hmmm....PayPol.com could be an informational site about Politician pay rates.... I'd go there occasionally to see how much all the various senators, representatives, executive elite and such are making.....

I did not say it was legal, I just wonder why would people pay that kind of $ for it... it could be that in certain cases the TM violation is not that clear cut...

It has always been well established that inventing a reason to use a domain is much different than actually having a useage for a domain.

As far as paying mucho $$$ on typos... To be honest, I have no reason why they would spend that much money. I can understand paying a mimimal amount to steal traffic and then just give it up when you're called out. But that's me. Each person has their own risk.reward level.

typos are common and some people pay a lot of money for them.
drugs are common and some people pay a lot of money for them.
driving 120mph is common and some people pay a lot of money to do it.

Snapnames, Enom and Pool encourage it because its a money maker, but you will lose probably lose your domain if caught. A lot of people are betting on that "if" never happening.
