recently noticed a trend from moderators to void all auctions which begin with word "START" as first bid.. instead of numeric value. while I understand this is not as per rules.. it seems incorrect to void a whole auction, often many days after it started, and which has since gone way beyond the start bid.. just because the initial bidder said START.

not to mention that probably a good 50% of all past and present auctions, with only few of them voided, have began with START as first bid. so it all ended just fine as we all saw.

I hope there can be some consideration given to allowing the START bid. not because it is ideal, but because most people here do not seem to be aware of the rule, and having every auction voided because of this, is a highly counterproductive exercise.

thanks for considering!

@Eric Lyon - just had a thought, isn't "Sold at BIN" the same thing, the OP can change $100 original BIN to $300 and then demand $300.

A seller must also post the new BIN update in the thread as a comment to alert everyone of the update, otherwise it is not valid and goes back to the previous bin by default which staff can retrieve through edit history of the original sales post. In blatant manipulation instances, there may be consequences in addition to the bin correction and rule reminder that could potentially effect the sellers account.

Hope that helps.

In a week or two, if anyone continues to use "START" as a bid, it will be a blatant rule violation that we will take action against. Hopefully it won't come to that. ;)

Not that I've ever bidded with a 'start' nor have I (luckily) faced problems with bids that start with 'start' but that's a bit harsh and heavy handed innit?

It has caused many issues for both bidders and sellers.

In the same way that we cannot allow a winning bidder to not fulfill their commitment, we cannot continue to allow a starting bidder to ruin someone else's auction.

All bidders please help us avoid it from happening by ignoring all bids that contain only the word "start" - place your bid as if that post did not exist, and then auctions won't need to be reset.

Thanks!
