Starting a "chat" site?

Me and a few of my friends have decided we would like to start a chat site where people could meet and post pictures and videos (we know it's been done before). We have very little experience with business; I'm 19 and plan to major in business but that can't help us in the present. My mom knows a bit about starting a business and one of my friend's dads is a lawyer.

How should we go about doing this, or in other words, where do we start? We plan to make money off ads and donations and eventually "premium services". I know a little about webdesign but plan to hire someone for the more complex DB coding. Thanks for your time!

I forgot to mention that. I'm covered on my host since he is the one who suggested I check out this site. By chat site I mean not just a site where you can talk to people but a site where you can browse profiles and meet others.

Pretty much, but we have some ideas we think would make the user experience better (plus some other features).

It's a miracle I understood that! J/k. Could you be more specific on what you might suggest for a business? I have always wanted to do web hosting but the marked is saturated so I don't see the point in it.

irc - internet relay chat services on the web such as undernet.org and dal.net are not earning any profits with chat services either based on irc protocol or deployed via flash or phpchat. it's impossible usually chatters go to chat to relax and putting ads on their chat panel will just annoy them and definitely they will leave. however if you start with a forum and slowly/steadily gain loyal membership and then incorporate a chat panel seems promising but you will need a lot of tech staff to handle the bulk work for you.

Thanks. I guess I wasn't clear (one of my writing problems I have). We are planning to do a site like myspace. I was trying not to put that down because I do not want to copy them. We just feel the presentation of the idea, while good, could be done better.

if you want some custom made you're looking at U.S.$1000 to U.S.$3,000 at http://www.getafreelancer.com/ (they're not my price basically, it's from different freelancer programmer,) usually you award the project to who is the cheapest.

Thanks. That site looks like a joke though, some of the bidders responses are really unprofessional. Makes me think, "would I hire you?"
