SSN / Tax

The only thing that keeps me from signing up with Google is that you need your SSN (i'm under 18) and your tax ID in the account info. What's the deal with that? Why do they need it> Will they check if I paid my taxes off of ads displayed on my sites, and why do they need my SSN? :zzz:

They will send the information about how much you have earned to Social Security after you reach a certain amount... Will cause extra taxes, depending on how much you earn, yes...

So they pay it for me, or do I have to pay for it? Will SS remind me of the total due?

If any US based company pays you more than $500 in a year, they are required by law to report that information to the IRS. (That's why they need your SSN)

You are responsible for figuring out and paying your own taxes.

Being under 18 doesn't change your ability to find your social security number. Call or write your local ss administration office and they'll explain the process to you.

Also, any income from Adsense should be reported. Google does report even small payments via a 1098 if I remember correctly. My wife made $250 or so last year and we got our statements on the same day

Yep, I got my social security card when I was 17 so I could join the military.
It's as easy as filling out a simple form and having a recruiter in uniform get you to the front of the line.

That's not the problem, not the SSN, but you HAVE to be over 18 according to google tos, and you need a tax id, which i dont have. The easiest method would be to have my dad sign up, correct me if I'm wrong please.

Sounds good to me. Just don't do anything illegal that could get him in trouble (obviously)

A tax id is for buinesses, for individuals it is just your SS# that is your tax ID
