I just Registered SportsCenter.TV and intend on turning it into a Sports related website with discussion community. It will cover pretty much all sports, from Wrestling, FootBall, Hockey, BaseBall, BasketBall and so on.

I wasn't even thinking about ESPN, do they have a show called that? I'm not a Huge Sports Fan, I only like wrestling and some baseball..... I just thought that it would make a great name.

Ok- after a google search, I guess they do have a show named that- Oh well... I did not know that. Sports Center just sounded like a great name for a site about all sports.

After doing a further search, ESPN owns SportsCenter.com and doesn't even use it. Is their Sports Center show dead now?

Would anyone be interested in helping build the site and community, say with Articles and Modding a community? I may even be willing to offer 50% ownership- depending on what you can bring to the table.

ESPN's SportsCenter has been around for a long time. ESPN also has multiple LIVE trademarks @ the USPTO for "SportsCenter". Since ESPN is a cable TV station, they may decide to come after you if you decide to develop the name. No guarantee that they'll come for you, of course, but I think it's a bit too risky.

Maybe you can park your SportsCenter name and develop another similar name?

As always, IMO.

I thought about regging this name about 3 weeks ago and skipped it due to the potential legal / TM ramifications with ESPN.

I sent an e-mail to [email protected] and [email protected]

One of those two should make their way to someone at the top- but I don't take well to threats, seeing as how I actually had no idea that ESPN had a show named that, I'll just say, they best not come across as an ass.

DOt tv you have nothing to stand on they can come across any way they like ignorance is no excuse to infringe a tm. So however you take to anything really does not matter you will jsut lose the name as this is a blatant TM infringement. never heard of sportscenter? do you live in a cave?

Sorry guys but i think youre all wrong...

Theres absolutely no way "sports center" can be claimed by any company..

Maybe its because the rest of us 'English speakers' in the world spell this phrase "sports centre" [available btw].

Provided you are not trading on any of ESPN's goodfaith you have no problem with this registration.

ESPN's property is the "SportsCenter" brand, not the generic term "Sports Center."

Dis agree Ian maybe if sports center was selling athletic equipment but a news site about sports using the tv ext they can easily prove brand confusion.

Fully agree with Equity this is perfectly right. However, and this is a personal appreciation, I do not see ESPN suing for such a a name.

Youre absolutely right Ray but if i owned the name and knew it was dodgy but "literally not so" i.e. showed activities and sports related to the tuvalu islands, id hide under this banner (if i was that way inclined, that is ;) ).

And like JB says "if someone with a lot of money wants a name bad enough then they'll get it", a domain owners only defence is the battoning over the hatch.

i.e. if i was the owner of this name id use everything at my disposal to fight the corporate nasty. Make them consider buying you off rather than have to overcome all the obstacles youve left for them.

No, I don't live in a cave..but I don't sit around on my ass watching TV much either. The only TV I watch is Wrestling (WWE and TNA) and some Paranormal shows... I have no real interest in Football and such, but it's a great name... which by the way, It is Sports Center on my end and not SportsCenter. I'll see what they say, and then I will decide what I will or will not do- and it won't be based on any laws.
