If i have two domain names "financialadvisors.com" and "financialadvisers.com" and i want to achieve the highest SERP for both spellings then should I create two web sites with duplicate content except for the spelling of advisor - this keyword will be on hundreds of pages so it would be clumsy to put both spellings in every article?

This would involve a lot more work in terms of linking strategy etc., but if you have one site with the consistent English spelling on hundreds of pages, then you would not have a high enough SERP to attract the American traffic?

I guess two sites may make sense, because an American is not likely to click on financialadvisers.com anyway?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

definitely don't do the duplicate content idea. if this is just for a minisite, then make two separate ones with different content. otherwise, just choose the more popular one as your main site.

Make one site do the redirect for the other name.

Not sure if it is allowed or not. Yahoo might be accepting it, but Google, no comment.

Wouldn't that would only work for type-in traffic, it wouldn't actually work for generating organic traffic for both of the spellings. there would be hundreds of pages with "financial advisor" and those wouldnt get a SERP for "financial adviser" despite the redirect?

Yes only for typein.

If you really want organic traffic for both then you must have 2 different sites. With different content.

Create one and redirect it to another one on the server side. That will save all of your SEO benefits.

the only different content would be the spelling of advisor which would mean that only the site that publishes the content first would get the credit. It is a very frustrating situation eh!

If only spelling of advisor is different on those 2 sites then there will surely be Duplicate content issues.

exactly so the only way seems to be to create two totally different sites with different content. One of the sites could be a sub or extension sure, but it is still a lotta work.

Or I was thinking does the google algorithm account for spelling variations??

Just a 1 spelling change in whole site doesn't means it is totally different sites.

Or else I would have make another Namepros of my own leeching threads from here and just changing Namepros in footer to something else.

Thanks.

I agree Keral so the only way to rank for a different spelling is to have a different site surrounded by totally different content.

Yes :)

Because 1 spelling change won't do the trick. :) You can try to put premium content on one domain and rest of junk articles and all stuff on other.

But keep one neat and updated. The rest of all average and okay articles goes on the other ;)

Search Engine Consider them different, make sure for unique content

I find it convenient to occasionally leave spelling "errors" in place. In my case that would be trailers and trailors. Google will kindly index for both :) Since the "wrong" spelling doesn't get many searches it's easy to rank for.

Another suggestion would be to write a little discussion about the usage of the spelling variations, making sure to use both forms, and include that on a top level page.

Don't create duplicate content, Try to create content unique and different for your two sites. Optimize it properly.
