Specific advice in acquiring a registered domain (personal)

Good day,

I'm trying to secure a domain for my unborn daughter, basically the domain is her first and last name. It's not very common according to google, but unfortunately, someone out there does own it.

I've found the owner's name, however the only contact info given is the hosting service, GoDaddy. As well, this particular person owns about 800+ other domain names, so I'm assuming his interest is more business than personal in nature.

What I'm generally interested in hearing is some advice on how to go about contacting this person, and a general idea on how much I should expect pay.

On the first question (contacting the person), I realize I can use GoDaddy's own brokerage service, or backorder the domain, but I would like to hear from someone with experience on the best avenue of approach.

One the second question (what I should expect to pay), I would prefer not to post the name publicly as I don't want it to appear in a google search and potentially drive the price up, but I'd gladly discuss it via PM if there is anyone out there willing to help me out.

Thanks.

Hi Donald. Welcome to NamePros.

If they own 800 other domains, it probably means they are a domainer. Have you checked the whois. How long has the domain been registered. If only 1 or 2 years you might want to wait until the next expiry date, just in case they drop it because it isn't producing any income. Where are the nameservers pointing to? Is their a website or does it only point to a parking page? Does the parking page have a For Sale link? Is it listed for sale on GoDaddyAuctions/Sedo/Afternic? I wouldn't contact the domainer at least until I know the answers to all these questions. They might give you a clue as to the price. PM me if you want any further advice.
