I hate spammers but... 9 YEARS in REAL prison!!! Man that is harsh!

9 years is too much for being a nuisance, albeit on a huge scale. Now, if fraud is involved, that's a different matter.

Spam is fraud. Have you bothered to even read the spam you get. They are invitations to buy stuff and phishing attempts all day long. Half the sites that I get spammed get shut down before I can even visit them to complain. Spammers are the lowest scum on the internet.

Now, I hate spammers as much as the next guy or girl, but have you ever stopped to think that there probably wouldn't be any spammers if it wasn't for those idiots that actually respond to the spammers' emails and buy the products/services they advertise???

I believe these people should also be made to "pay" for their stupidity.

9 years is a fair amount he was doing more then just spamming to make that much money like others have already pointed out. This is the first case of this matter so they have to set the bar high so others will think twice about sending out spam in the future. I never click the bulk anyway so spam does not bother me to much e-mail wise.

Yes, its not just spamming we are looking at. From what I can see, its scamming that got him in trouble. Spam + Scam + PORN = Definate jail time.

If you do, is it ok for them to open the email and see the porn that pops ups? you know, the money shots, the sucking, or full penatration? If you are ok with your kids seeing that, then you would think this is too eccessive.....

I have 2 girls (14 + 6), and they receive stuff like that all the time. Luckily I trained my little one to not open email without me present, so she doesn't see them. But it is disgusing...

BTW- a bullet is too swift... I prefer a flesh eating virus...

It seems the story's link is not working. I go to it and it's not there.

I got phone spams everyday! Hmm.. just wonder is phone spam is worst than email spam?

The one who got trick through email spams need to learn how to avoid those mistakes. I want to use the word stupidity on them, but I'm a nice guy so I use the word mistake.

I never open email that I knew is not from a friend, and family members. Plus even it's from them, I never open the attachment until I call them up and have their confirmation. Email can be spoof.

If from legal website, I rather type in the browser's address bar the website's address than click on the link inside the email. Safer that way.

Personally, i see the 9yr sentence as a wake up call for spammers, the court must have done it to make a stance against spammers...hopefully it will make them think before spamming.

They know the risk of spamming and its his own fault...TBH its good that they made an exhibition of him.
