I'm not sure if this is the Forum but all the sudden I got about 1,000 spam email for every hour in my mailbox.

All of the emails came from sites with .com.br extenstion.

I deleted the hosting and add it back again and as soon as it's back the spam emails are rolling like crazy.

I turn on the spam assassin and put a couple of IP addresses in the IP deny manager but it did not help.

This is crazy. These people should be in jail! NOW.

All of them are "Mail delivery failed" - Return to sender (me). They use my email address as the sender and it bounces back to me?

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

[email protected]
unrouteable mail domain "base.com.br"

------ This is a copy of the message, including all the headers. ------

Return-path: <nobody@top.THISISMYSERVER.COM]>
Received: from nobody by top.THISISMYSERVER.com with local (Exim 4.43)

Ah yes, them. Dont know how to solve that one, but had a similar problem before. They have used your server to mass mail people, you are simply getting the mail failed errors. As far as I know?

Looks like someone has sent out spam using your address as the return address. This happens a lot. Find some unique text string in the message and simply have your spam filter dump everything containing it. Preferably this would be in the headers or first few lines of the messages, since not every server bounces the full message.

There is no point bouncing these because you are only bouncing bounces.

I have had this happen to me from time to time. It always goes away in a few days. Worst ever was about 60,000 bounces over the course of three days.

If they ever find out that you forward "Catchall" Email to another account - They'll just keep making up addresses as well ..... Been hit on this as well :(

Use the spamcop email service to download your POP email and retrieve it from spamcop's POP server instead. http://www.spamcop.net

I used to be PLAGUED with spam (about 300-400 a day, every day) on one of my emails, and have used many spam filters, you name it, I've probably used it. Now just a trickle gets through.

Well, this is really not spam but rather being mail bombed. They use my email address as a return address and send out spam mails to thousand of email addresses. The only things that bounced back to me was thousand of wrong email address.

I talked to a couple of people and it seems like nothing I can do about it except delete my email address. Well that sucks because I use this email for years with hundred of vendors and clients.

These people should really be in jail!
