The creators of South Park have never been afraid to upset celebrities - and many of the show's viewers.

From jokes about religion and homosexuality to four-letter tirades, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have always mixed shock tactics with satire in the hit cartoon series.

But they were accused of hitting a new low last night after lampooning the demise of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin just weeks after his death.

They did do things with 9/11.

Full episode:
Part 1: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Zqd3ptiFpy8
Part 2: http://youtube.com/watch?v=D8eMMOOgWhE
Part 3: http://youtube.com/watch?v=JxrTn1hmu2Q

Most new episodes are about current issues and they are always right on. The show is a comedy show known to go to far, and if you have problems with it.. you just shouldn't watch it. Your remote (most likely) has a channel button.

How 'bad' were they? (I'm deaf so these links wouldn't help me. I'd need captioning)

But yeah, if ppl don't like what they see, they should just turn the channel. I agree 100% there. But not watching something won't remove the fact that it exists.

It's either soon to try and lighten things up with a comedic homage or 6 months later when everyone is just getting adjusted to not having him around. And then they see this. IMO

Now THIS is down right wrong,

Bill Maher as Steve Irwin

*Warning* You may not want to see this picture if you are easily disgusted by people's actions.

I think I just lost all respect to Bill. Some deaths are mocked and it seems funny (like anyone cares about seeing a mock Hitler murder?) but when you mock a GOOD guy, well, there's nothing to laugh at other than your own cold heart.

But that's the thing - you HEARD about it. People have a tendency to blow things out of proportion and take them out of context in order to stir up some controversy (although to say South Park isn't purposely controversial would be a lie). If you saw the actual scene in question in the context of the episode, it's really not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. The whole joke was that the security at Satan's halloween party said guests were complaining because someone came dressed as Steve Irwin with a stingray barb in his chest. Satan walked up to him - Satan, of all people - and said that "its just too soon" to be coming to a party as Steve Irwin and it was disturbing some of the guests, at which point Steve said he really was Steve Irwin, at which point Satan kicked him out for not technically wearing a costume.

We all understand that Steve did a lot for the environment and was an all around family man and a good guy, but I don't think it was "too soon" to do something like that.

Do you remember when Michael Jackson dangled his son on a balcony?. Oh boy he is whackojacko, ( a good name for a forum member.) Lets say he and his baby fell off that balcony and Whacko died. Would we really mourn or laugh? We would probably do both as he is a very talented entertainer. Plus we think he is out there so we like to see his odd behaviour.

Well, we were not so incensed when Irwin dangled his son over crodiles. Why? I suppose its because Steve was a normal looking guy and had plenty of humor. But he did put himself and others in danger many times.

To me that is a real bad example showing kids all around the world to taunt animals. But all in all dying is a event we all strive to understand. To see irony in something and to be able to make some light in a low key or possibly in a humourous way is not always a bad thing.

Yes lets laugh at South Parks depiction. Irwins a funny guy.

South Park is one of the greatest shows ever made for me. I have cried with laughter at that program so many times I am smiling just thinking about it. I can completely understand why it may not be everyone's cup of tea as everyone has a different sense of humour. I think it is brilliantly cutting edge, dares to go where very few others would, and ALWAYS makes a good point under the surface. I am a massive fan of Steve Irwin and was as sad as almost anyone that such a great guy died so young, and I must admit I have yet had an opportunity to see this particular episode, but I am CERTAIN I will enjoy it.

The issues the program deals with are almost always areas no other show would dare to touch and I respect it for that, and I truly believe that everyone should try to view themselves in a humourous light, even if it means taking some stick. If, when I die, Trey and Matt featured me in an episode i wouldn't care how bad it made me look, I would feel honoured.

And, at the end of the day, I agree that there are many, many far less sensationalist programs that are much worse for society as a whole. At least most people who watch South Park are capable of independent thought...and if you don't agree, you can always turn over.
