The creators of South Park have never been afraid to upset celebrities - and many of the show's viewers.

From jokes about religion and homosexuality to four-letter tirades, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have always mixed shock tactics with satire in the hit cartoon series.

But they were accused of hitting a new low last night after lampooning the demise of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin just weeks after his death.

They mock everything, people will get over it.

They had Satan say that it wasn't funny yet. I don't think they were actually mocking his death. I also agree with Mikor..

I am sure life will go on, like mentioned they mock everything in the name of humor as that is what the show is all about.

Humor is the spice of life. Laugh it up! South Park is awesome and totally hilarious. It's all in fun, and I don't think there should be any outcry about it. Most importantly,if there is, that's what they want.

Newspapers and forum posts talking about South Park = free publicity.

If you've ever seen the movie Private Parts (about Howard Stern), there was this part about the average Howard stern hater listened for 'X' amount of time, why?
"I want to see what he'll say next."

The people that liked it, listened because:
"I want to see what he'll say next."

South Park is the same way.

I'm not against humor.. even irreverent humor.. just think it's a bit insensitive.

Don't watch South Park that much but at the end of the day, if they want to do that, let them. It doesn't really affect me...

Well, of course, not.. not unless it's one of your own they're making fun of.. how far "entertainment" has come since I was a kid.. and how low it has sunk.

People have become so desensitized to anything that doesn't affect them directly these days.. not a criticism of anyone in particular, just an observation.

I am not going to say I fully disagree with you, there are times when this is true. However, I don't think South Park having Steve Irwin on their show falls under this. Even for those close to Steve Irwin, there is no way that a fake representation of him on a cartoon show should effect the grieving process.

Infact, I think it shows a sense of respect to him, to recieve mention in the show, as the same would not happen for most (if not all) of us.

Steve might have thought it funny but I'm sure his wife and kids don't.. that's my point.

I am just meaning that theres nothing I can do about it, I don't agree with it, but not much is going to stop someone as big as them.

I have to assume anyone actually shocked by this doesn't watch South Park much.
This seems like the best explanation.

dgridley, how much do you watch South Park?

I think it's strange that almost everyone knows about this episode. Like everyone in my school was reciting "Biggie Smalls... Biggie Smalls..." all day long. I don't remember another South Park episode with this much feedback.

As for the Steve Irwin thing, I really think that's just Matt and Trey's way of reacting to and acknowledging his death. I don't think they were trying to disrespect the guy or anything.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I've seen them make fun of Catholics, Christians, Jews, Scientologists, Mormons, Muslims, Gays, Handicapped, and just about any other taboo you can think of. The Irwin bit almost seems more respectful to him than how they've handled some of these other topics.

I was watching a documentary and his wife recieved an email saying something along the lines of..Steve should of been wearing the latest sun cream - it protects from dangerous rays. And she said..he would find it hilarious. So maybe, it's not as insulting as it seems? Maybe he's smiling down at us.
