first of all....why do you want to buy it for $1350 when it is advertised at sony for $999 ?? :)

Second, if you want to pay for the brand name, go ahead and buy a Sony but you could get a machine with the same specs(or better) for less..

Just my 2 cents :)

Cheers

pc brands that worked for me long term are toshiba, acer and compaq.
never used sony before but i guess each has it's strengths and weaknesses but they're brand names they have reputation to protect.

Sony is good - but they are known to have bad batteries. Even here in the US, they are ridiculously over priced when compared to other companies.

Agreed here. I can't tell you how many times Sony has recalls on their batteries for laptops.

When I purchased my sony vaio 3 years ago, Sony recalled the battery within a week.

My vaio lasted me 3 good years, and finally took the cake when I accidently cracked the screen.

I would check SlickDeals.net, I picked up a lower end Sony in July for $400
It amazes me since, I love the build quality, Sony really does a good job.

I have a 1 and a half year old Vaio and since the day i spend £500 on it, it's been incredibly unreliable!

Why do you have it still when it is unreliable??? :)

I would avoid Sony. Their reputation has really tanked even in Japan. Their support is poor, and that's about the only reason to buy a big brand name. They simply assemble components from other manufacturers. Smaller companies will do the same for a much lower price.

Also, they love to try things like having a special port, so that the only accessories you can buy must also be Sony. Don't trust 'em. They're living off their past reputation.
