Social media or backlinks?

Which of the two prevalant methods in internet marketing is more beneficial? I know that marketing solely by social media can be huge even with a complete lack of backlinks, and that a lot of high PR backlinks can inversely rate well with a lack of social media advertising.Which is more advantageous to spend more resources to market in?

A combination of both and it depends completely on your product or service. Generally if your product is an answer to a problem, than search traffic is best because that is people looking for answers. If your product is unique, interesting or the search resulsts are too competitive for you to rank, than social is the way to go.

The retargeting on Facebook ads has gotten scary good. I want to start looking into that.

In my point of back-links are more important once if you are using High page rank authority Websites with unique content.

Both are right and good techniques. Back-links are most effective to compare social media in internet marketing so do more back linking to get good result. social media is a way to get natural visitor but backlinks are good option to get result in top page of search engine.

If you are just looking on which factor to focus more financial backing, I believe the successful backlinking will generally take more. Then again, there are so many services offering you the Sun and the stars that you can easily fall into their trap and end up with hundreds of low quality, toxic backlinks which will ruin your work. So do keep that in mind.

Apart from the financial part of it, I am all for combining methodology. If those are your first steps in marketing this will definitely give you some much needed experience as well as insights on what works best for YOU. You have so many tools and social networks at your disposal that it will be a pity to limit yourself. Every business and company is very specific so until you find your best source of traffic/leads/sales its best to dip your toes wherever you can.

I agree with some of the others here. Social media is a great way to get traffic but it will only benifit you while you are actively pursuing it. Natural and good back links on high ranked and related sites will give you a better ranking and lasting traffic though maybe not as immediate.

both social media and the back links has there own value in the seo point of view as we knew back link create link juice so site get rank when index the site count the all the links but by social media huge number of the traffic increase and attract towards the business site or the products and generate some leads so both has there own value
