My thoughts twist and turn on this one......but I am sure there are alot of big boys out there with wads of cash who are betting on .TV purely and simply because of Richard's reputation....

He has been the wonder child of WEB 2.0 with the magic he conjured up on MYSPACE.....would he really make such a wrong move by getting involved with .TV if it all goes pair shaped????!!

It would finish him as the man with the golden touch Most do not believe Richard would allow that rep to fail......

I wish he would advertise on TV - that is my only real gripe.....ME.TV is a waste of space and is not importnt to the extension at all in the long run....

While we all have opinions on what adverstising should be done, let's try and keep this to a debate on whether or not Demand Media is worthwhile right now for the extension or more of long term thing. In other words, for short hold domainers, is .tv worth it? Or is it more of a buy and hold strategy.
My personal opinion is not solidified right now. It was a bit ago, but I am personally waiting to see what happen with the sale. That will focus my future in the market.

You are focused on what sale ? Showbiz

I think anyone with a short term time frame for .tv will be disappointed if they are looking for x,xxx sales consistently.

IMO people should pare down their portfolio focus on quality. Look at what the potential for each domain in their portfolio has. Do not get caught in the trap oh a name worse than mine sold for x,xxx so I will hold non sensical domains.

Demand Media I look at as neutral, they can be successful without .tv owners here being successful (example just selling a lot of non premium domains) And owners can be successful without .tv being all Demand Media hoped .tv could be. Searching has been successful Demand Media did not help him, Local experts will succeed with or without Demand Media, James and JohnTV and others have had impressive sales with no help from Demand Media last I checked they did not bring any buyers to the table(NOT SAYING THEY SHOULD HAVE BUT IT SHOWS PEOPLE SUCCESSFUL WITHOUT THEM ) Mindwrecker got a development deal without Demand Media. SO I see them as neutral.

It would hardly finish him, this is the man who was once CEO of Dr Koop, one of the most publicized collapses in internet history. Some of his ventures won't work out.

"On July 15, 2002 DrKoop.com was bought by Vitacost.com, a seller of health-related products over the Internet, for $186,000. At one time DrKoop.com was worth more than $1 billion based on its market cap. Vitacost paid $186,000 in cash for DrKoop.com's assets, which included the brand name, trademarks, domain names, the Web site, and the e-mail addresses of its registered users."

Maybe Richard even signs those stock certificates lol

I was at DM the other day and can tell you they are working on some opportunities that take some time to cook up.

I still believe .tv is bigger than any 1 company,
Its a developers extension so DM doing their thing doesn't really affect a developer developing.

So like you equity I'm neutral to their involvement.

I dont think their solution is anywhere near perfect. But they do have a lot of good ideas. Also, they are growing the network and making it easy for us to link to related sites in what is essentially an organic web ring.

In my recent google searches I have been noticing more and more .tv sites in the results. With many video related sites you will run into a .tv name on one of googles top results pages. So the concept seems to be working as this grows the brand. If demand integrates the right tools, they may actually be onto something.

I am not fond their templates and I feel they could do a lot better with a lot of the features on the me.tv platform. But they have concieved of some neat innovations such as their grab this now feature.

They are doing very well and we will all enjoy how this plays out.

That doesnt mean that any price you pay for a enom premium name will pay off, but the market is going to grow. If you are smart, you can make some profit here. But it is not easy.

The .tv concept is brilliant and Demand Media is managing it well. They are growing the brand with a social network template site and that it is far more than any other extension is doing! There is simply more thought and innovation behind .tv and this is something that will effect the market.

Many of us critizise the Premium annual renewal pricing but the fact is that this may simply be the most fair and effective way to find an owner that would benifit the most from the name. A thousand dollars annually is a relatively small amount of money for most businesses to expense. It has certainly prevented all of us hungry domian investors from grabbing up the best names and holding these companies hostage for thousands more! The fact is that most other domain name "launches" are disasters with some sceamers being able to get in and grab all the good names for a registration fee by preregistering or some other technicallity. Renewal pricing actually helps prevent this sort of thing.

Nice imagery - I have similar feelings, especially after my latest experience.

Although separating Demand Media from Enom and Verisign I would say that DM has definitely helped increase the profile of .TV. They could do alot more for sure, and TV would do just fine without them, but more people know about the extension now than before Richard Rosenblatt's involvement. More Press, more exposure.

For me the two key events that encouraged my interest in .TV: 1) Google's purchase of YouTube, and 2) Demand Media's .tv marketing deal. In addition, DM has kicked some money into the dot tv space, which may help bring forward the timing of .tv global awareness. My 2 cents.
