I recently started with snapnames.com , I backordered about 15 pre-release domains and all of them showed up as auction starting on...

So when the auction day passed , they simply say "backorder".

Thinking they keep domains of some value to themselves.Your thoughts?

Did they catch the names you wanted? That would be the first step. It's likely that they didn't catch them, and now they can be backordered in the event they drop again in the future.

How can I know if they caught it?

What makes you think they did?

Depending on how much time has passed, you could always check WHOIS.

Of course, they offer you to backorder these domains for an year ahead. So i'm sure they are not scam.

It's unfair to label them a scam.

Perhaps another backordering service caught your desired domains?

Snapnames isn't only the backorder service in the market. Many other services target the valuable domaim name. So probably someone else grabbed that domain and that's y it's showing backorder.
I had some issues with them in past but they handle that very professionally. So if you have any issue regarding pre-ordered domain name. Send a support ticket to them. They will reply you with the correct answer. What's really going on. Here we can only assume possibilities.

Yes the same. Snapnames is not a registrar. They pre release domains which are registered with their alise so those regitrars could have more alise who taking order for same domains.
In short basically they don't control domain names. Last month i pre-ordered a domain name Harmonium which i think ended up in an auction at namejet.

Correct me if I'm wrong. It's best guess as per my knowledge. Consider other replies too.
Hopefully you will get right answer. You are looking for.

They aren't that good. I remember I tried to backorder a .Gs domain with them and end up to register it myself faster than them. Lol
My best guess is there didn't catch it.

I wouldn't call them a scam.

Sometimes, I scratch my head and wonder what the F happened to the domain I put an order in for though...lol.

But I have scooped up pre release names from their service and everything went well once I paid and it was transferred to the registrar account. Also, their drop catching service is pretty good also.
