This is a valuable generic single word .org domain.
Monthly Searches of the exact term "Slash" is very high(source:estibot.com): 562,500
It has a good generic value.
The .org extension may reduce the value but it is worth between mid-high $x,xxx for resell to low $xx,xxx for end user.
Finding an end user for .org may be difficult.
The value is much higher for the .com.
It will be much easier to sell it for mid-high $x,xxx.
If you choose to believe the value of generic .org is 5% of the generic .com, it is very close to the 40K estimate.

The literal Slashdot net sold for 2k and points to slashdot org

I can't see what it would be used for. .org is charity/non-commercial organisation. I could see some domainers liking it though, it looks good visually, maybe two/three hundred at most.

Forget estibot. $40K? Dear dear.
