Skiing.com or Snowboarding.com similar question

I am looking to purchase a sports related name that is similar to those to names so i want to use them as my example. I repeat.. these are not the domains.. but same scenario.

Would Snowboarding.com be open to TM or other legal problems? Or is it too generic for any company to try to claim any legal issues?

Would Subdomains of the name like www.Extreme.Snowboarding.com , www.Tahoe.Snowboarding.com, or www.Burton.Snowboarding.com be worth anything to set up as seperate domains? As far as keywords would they been seen in SEO the same as say TahoeSnowboarding.com for value?

I cannot give the name out but what would you roughly apprasie a name like this for.. maybe it could be likened with Hanggliding.com or Skydiving.com as far as about equal.

4 I plan to hang onto this domain and maybe do some development and or lease the name out. Are these type of names a good longterm investment?

I don't think you would have problems with trademark issues if it is generic.
Unless its like Apple Records vs Apple Computer, when one side has trademarks in a specific area.

1 - I very much doubt it, but of course always check for TM's first.

2 - I think subdomains for the most part would be fine, especially place names, your example "Extreme" may be a little different and would probably also have to be checked first, eg - XTREME SNOWBOARDING did have a TM but is now DEAD (it was used for an Arcade crane game relating to snowboarding) - if it was still live then you would probably be ok to use it for a different use from the TM holder, in this case - Games.

Not too sure about the seo thing but I suspect it would work pretty good.

3 - A small fortune unless you get very lucky - the $xxx,xxx region


4 - Yup, especially if it gets high type in traffic and the name applies to a large lucrative market !
