I purchased a domain stuck in this account a few days ago. The seller just gave me the account with password access.

For the life of me, I cannot get the domain transferred out of this fort knox registrar.

Anyone experience these guys before? Any suggestions on how to get my domain out of this fortress?

From a Godaddy.com email I just received:

You recently purchased a domain registrar transfer for:
xxxxxxx.NET

In order to complete this transfer we must have the approval of the
administrative contact for this domain name. However, the administrative
email address obtained from your current registrar does not appear to
be valid, or could not be obtained.

The administrative email address on file at your current registrar is:
Not Found

Please contact your current registrar and update the administrative
email address on file for this domain name.

Doing a whois, this registrar displays no contact information, though all is updated to my details.

nobody will transfer your domain if the admin contact doesnt approve the transfer. Its a industry standard.

Just try to get contact with the registrar more than that you cant do.

Just to update, I received another email late last night and godaddy was able to get it started. When I was doing a Whois on the domain, I couldn't see contact/reg info for anyone, on any Whois search.

Something happened though, and it kicked in, so all seems well.

Must have been a lag at the registrar. If it isn't a very well known (large) registrar, they may not have the resources to update info upon request.

If you transfer a domain mostly the whois info dissapears and most of the time this means that the transfer is going through. At the next whois update it will probably show at the gianing registrar.
