showandwin.com finally developed.

Hello everybody,

It has been a long time coming, but I have finally finished developing showandwin.com. I had the domain parked here and there for a couple of years generating very little revenue. So I decided to develop it as a video sharing site and put some adsense and affiliate ads on it.

I realize that the web is super-saturated with youtube knock-offs, but I've put a little twist on this site (as the name would suggest) whereby every 6 months, the owner of the highest rated original content video will be awarded a 60GB Apple Ipod Video.

I received feedback from another member through a PM who told me that the opening page was a little too busy (he recommended that I get rid of the 'recent tags' area, and I did and it already looks better). He also told me that two channels didn't have any videos, and I've already put a couple of videos in one and I'm working on the other.

The good: The last 5 users online. Featured and recently viewed. Incentive to post and win.

The bad: no custom backdrop, very stale design overall.

The ugly: No key difference to any of the other youtube sites out there. You're claiming to have a spin on it,...where do you point that out? There's no indication on the site, at least none that stands out and monetizes your spin. If showing and winning is your key difference you'll need to make sure that this is understood from the get-go. If you hadn't explained it here, i would have never guessed.

Start working on a custom frame and backdrop, make sure that your "spin" is understood and maximize the efforts of your banner. it's too small and non-telling at this time. Your banner/logo/slogan are the key elements of positioning your site and turn it successful. It even comes before content.

The Spin
I didn't realize that the main point of the website was that unclear. Geeze, I'm working on a nice little flash movie to replace the Shoot. Click. Cha-Ching! description you see near the top with the pinkish background. It will be hard to miss the message once this flash movie is finished and uploaded.

Stale Design
I went out of my way to have this site's design very simple. Perhaps I over did it, but there's nothing more annoying than a very busy site where you don't even know where to look. I will reconsider the design.

What do you mean when you say the "banner is too small..."?
