Apple bought icloud.com for $4.5 million in 2011. Most emoji domains are used as redirects (Coke, American Airlines, Google, Honda... Donald Trump... etc.).

iCloud.com is an ultra premium cloud name..you cant really compare it to an emoji name

Thank you. I agree with you that they're apples and oranges. But, -as you know- cloud domains have huge derivative sales (i.e. ibeer would not go for as much). Furthermore, there are less than 50 emoji .coms in existence, so perhaps this is more of an "emoji post" than a "cloud post."

I totally agree, I have been selling cloud names since around 2008/2009 (a few high x,xxx and low to mid xx,xxx sales in the cloud niche) and I still have quite a few cloud names in my portfolio.

I actually tried to buy iCloud.com years before Apple bought it and he said it wasn't for sale

Name is both service descriptive to its customers, and also a brand.
