Hello everyone. Am getting to know more about this business by looking and reading through forums. But one question still haven't been answered. I have some domains to my name which are about to expire. Now the domains themselves don't represent high quality keywords neither are they short but my gut feeling says they might sell someday. I am divided between renewing or letting them go. I want to ask you all, how do you go about this? Do you trust your gut in these situations?

Yes I do, but it takes years to create that 'gut feeling' that will point you in the right direction.

Some 'gut' it, some will never get it.

Hi

totally agree!

you need to have a history of following hunches that paid off, before you can rely on those inner feelings.

imo....

Don't trust your gut when you're new to domain investing. As @Future Sensors said, it takes years to build a gut feeling that you can trust.

Personally, I use Gut + Data. If either is missing, that's a pass. You need to have both to buy or renew a domain.

If you are new to domaining don't trust your gut.
99% your gut will be wrong.

You must trust data more than your gut. However in the rare case you find a very good name available for hand reg let's say and your gut tells you to register it, chances are there will be a satisfactory number of end users that use a similar name .

Try put them for sale at 100$ if they don't sell until expiration, then drop them, but anyway it depends on your exp in this field and how good is the domain.

It's good to re-evaluate your names around renewal time.

I have domains that I just like but who knows if they will ever sell.

I like to look at the data but I also look to see if the money could be better used to renew better names, add better names, or just reduce my overall portfolio size and renewal cost.

Nothing wrong with having a few longshot names, just be aware that investing with your heart can be costly.

99% of domainers trust their gut, and their gut is wrong in most cases.

That's because this is not a simple Yes or No situation where the gut comes in handy like "is my wife cheating on me?" When it comes to valuations and investments, your gut could technically be right but you may never make a profit.

I would trust the data more than my gut, because every domainer thinks their domain will make them rich. In my case, my gut leads me to look into a potential investment, but it's only after comparing the data points that I follow through with my purchase.

When I first started out I would purchase anything my gut told me was good, which was like 1 out 20 domains I looked at then. Now with more experience, I'd say my "gut" is correct about 1/500. Meaning I will look into 500 domains that seem good and only end up purchasing one.

You can trust your gut only if it is well trained!
Only experience in a specific field, no matter which, will unlock a well trained gut.

Would you trust your Gut-feeling when dealing with something Medical, Mechanical,
household or just about any decision making process. I doubt it. It may get you to explore further though.

Yep, Love, relationships and domains seem to fit nicely together for those moments of pure gut-feeling. Now sober-up and get back to business

If you have to ask than it truly isn't your gut it's your head. And that's where you can let go.

Hi

probably only the newbie domainers may have such notions, that their newly regged names will make them rich.
however, once reality sets in, the perspective changes.

imo...

As all the experienced domainers said, it takes years to develop the right gut feeling. I totally agree.

I have been involved in domaining for about one year, during which I have registered domains based primarily on data (95%) and supplemented by my intuition (5%).

Only trust your gut if it's functioning well that day.

Domaining tries to resemble trading, and trading is based on stats.
But domaining is not exactly trading, and domain investors have not all the stats they need to make an accurate prediction. In this gap between domaining and trading our gut fits in.
As an Italian I always have in mind an emblematic artistic-commercial idea: Artist's Shit (Italian: Merda d'artista) is a 1961 anti-artwork by the artist Piero Manzoni. The work consists of 90 tin cans, each reportedly filled with 1.1 oz of feces, and measuring 1.9 in × 2.6 in, with a label in Italian, English, French, and German. In August 2016 at an art auction in Milan, one of the tins sold for a new record of €275,000, including auction fees.

Then, yes, you can choose a domain name that moves your gut, but you have to be very good at selling a piece of shit for a masterpiece, to stay in the metaphor.

Not if the numbers and other data disagree with your gut.

If you have high level of spirituality or you gifted my nature, so your gut feeling work in different situations in your life or it worked with you before in domaining...then your gut might be efficient enough to trust it in domaining..( without risking too much)

It's been a long day Patryx. Your Italian emblematic idea was worth waiting for. Perfect metaphor

When I hand reg a domain I trust my gut not data, analytics or peoples opinions!!!
If I would share with you some worders (secret related), you would fall from your chair and break your neck!

Trust your gut, but also check if the domains have potential based on traffic, trends, or interest. Research their value in marketplaces before renewing.
