hi guys, I am the owner of city of london uk (dot)com with the olympics comming to london next year i figure its time to cash in on this domain name. City of london has thousands of years worth of history. It is one of the smallest cities in the world. covering 1 square mile. despite its small size it is a major player in the worlds financial markets. The stock exchange and the bank of England as well as multi billion dollar companys all call The City of London uk Thier home. Now should i sell the domain name outright or should i rent sub domains and email adresses

Hotel-reservations.cityoflondonuk(dot)com
Hotel-reservations@cityoflondonuk(dot)com

etc, with millions of ppl all typing London into thier search engines it kinda looks authentic.

any advice would be greatfully recieved

many thanks
tony

i could see ppl typing "london" into SE's, but not "cityoflondonuk.com"

also...

don't attempt to use ANY olympic references on your domain/site without EXPLICIT permission from Olympic committee

however, if you get an offer, you could sell outright or offer the buyer a rental option. whatever works best for you.

good luck though!

Sell it. Dont bother renting it out.

Didn't even realize UK was in there... CityofLondon was already a stretch, but CityofLondonUK is, well, tough.

What's your pricing terms for both, anyway?

Your domain should be very expensive, in order to make "renting" attractive.

Unfortunately, however, there seems to be an identical domain name as yours showing up on Google. I'm not sure if "renters" would like to pay a spot where there is competition nextdoor.

.... if only your domain would show up at the top of search engine results.

If you are hoping for an 'exact match' search string, most people are too lazy to type very long words. "cityoflondon" is too long. They will just type "london". Everyone knows london is a city, they won't type the whole thing.

And besides, if people ever DID type "cityoflondon", that domain is already existing. In fact, if you type that phrase on Google, the "Auto-suggest" feature on Google will match it with that domain of your competitor, before it can get to your domain. And people will stop typing the whole thing and just click the one that Google is suggesting.

You'll be out of luck.

And if you're gunning for the Olympics, people will probably type "London Olympics". And your domain doesn't have the word "olympics" in it for SE's to match. You'll have to depend on "content" to get something to match. And there must be billions of websites about the london olympics already out there trying to compete with you.

My advice is to read the forums more to get a better understanding of what makes a domain good and what you can realistically do with them.

You aren't going to rent sub domains and email addresses unless you've got something spectacular (cars.com, insurance.com...), and this domain is worthless I am sorry to say. Every other extension is available and related domains like CityOfNewYorkUSA.com are available too. Those are two pretty good indicators that you'll have difficulty handling this like a premium domain.

Is there any interest in the domain name already ?

cityofparisfr.com and cityofromeit.com are available. i yawned when i saw your name in the appraisal section this morning. But it would probably be better to sell it before the games then after. No ones going to rent it from you. Goodluck

If you are looking at a respectable client, you can get more with renting it out. But it would take quite a longer time for you to get the return of investment. Personally, that would not be a problem as compared to selling it to get a lump sum.

There should be no problem with renting it out as it basically is the same thing. But there are others who do not want to rent the domain out so as to avoid facing tough problems brought about by the client.
