I had a site designed by a friend and I'm happy enough but i want to be able to add html code for links but i cant. I told him this and he sent me the ftp password which i used but i still dont know how to add html. Is ftp used to add html? When i click on a folder in ftp alot of time it says it cannot find the folder or file. I have contacted him and asked to be sent the complete site so that i can put it on my hard-drive- will i then be able to access all files in ftp? thanks

absolutely :)

ftp mainly to upload/download the files on your site. you will have to download the file you want to edit, then add the html to it, then upload back up to the server. you should be able to access all the files via ftp.

FTP = File Transfer Protocol

Basically, this is the way files are transferred from the server to your PC.
All you need to do is sign in with the username and password, then drag and drop onto your desktop.

But honestly, if you dont know all this, you might not want to mess with the site.

Do a search on google for some free info IMO!

Ftp

Hello

If he has given you ftp access with the password, then you can download the entire site to your PC using smart ftp or similar and then use frontpage or similar to edit it.

If it is your Domain and your webspace then you should have total access to your own server control panel, which you could use the server "file management" to download individual files(Web pages)

server file management= similar to explorer in windows

or if you wish to add just a few bits and pieces this could be done using the server file management, then use file edit. (Becareful you could ruin all his work)

You don't sound as if you have much experience, is it not possible for your friend to give you a little training.
