There is a bit of a real-world land grab going on, but perhaps more alarming than precious real-world real estate sought by service providers is the virtual land grab that is best summed up by Google wanting exclusive rights to .blog and Amazon wanting .book.

i don't think google would do that....if google shows any type of favoritism in the SERPS then people will lose faith and google will lose its acceptance....i don't think google will take this risk....

How about PPC?

You hear Google talking about thin affiliate sites, have Google Slapped some affliates using PPC because of that but......

http://adwords.blogspot.com/2009/11/announcing-product-listing-ads.html

Slap an affiliate put their own ads in place.

"Pay only for results: Product Listing Ads are charged on a cost-per-action (CPA) basis, which means that you only pay when a user clicks on your ad and completes a purchase on your site."

Google is basically an affiliate themselves.

They own an affiliate network and guess which merchants are in those ads? The ones in their network.

I wouldn't be surprised if .google is reserved only for google's products and services. It will become one of the next .gov or .edu for SEO purposes. Anyone with a like from a .google will have a major advantage in SEO... I'm just being silly but honestly, I could see it happening.
