I’ve been researching how domain names impact branding in the fashion industry. For example, FukuArt uses a clean and simple domain {fukuart.com} which makes it easy to remember and share.

In India, streetwear is growing rapidly, and many people already call FukuArt the Best Streetwear Brand in India. Others argue that international names still dominate when it comes to being a top fashion brand.

What do you guys think — does having a short, brandable domain give local streetwear brands an edge over global ones?

Having a short, short, memorable domain name helps any person or organization that wants an online footprint.

Even companies that do not have as much direct to consumer sales, like IBM for instance, still benefit from having a memorable and easy to spell name.

I have no idea what streetwear is. Isn't that just normal clothes?

Getting involved with/focusing on vacuous and permanently changing fields like fashion requires a lot of time and attention.

Better, in my view, to concentrate on creating good, short, made-up names and not worry about who they might appeal to. None of us have any idea what goes on in the minds of potential buyers of domains.

Plus, names of fashion brands are all over the place and as time moves along, such names are likely to get more and more unusual, risqué and iffy, like the clothes they make.

Hi

best way to get eyes on, then word of mouth for, an unknown brand, it to associate it with a persona’ that’s popular with your market

Im not from India but I assume street wear refers to urban style fashion. which has roots to hip hop

imo….

Hi, imad100

A sharp domain can help, but real lift comes when the name aligns with a distinct fashion identity.

Local is global - especially for the apparel industry, where exact match global names like Jeans, Denim, Athleticwear, Casualwear, Streetwear, etc. will always have the edge over local brands.

Personally, I stick with exact match domains in the fashion space as they open-up the entire industry for domaining side hustles prior to, & facilitating, being sold.

Examples include: Streetwear.ing and JeansTV.com - universal 'one size fits all' fashion, and global cultural, brands.
