I thought it would be good to share some selling secrets...this can be a concept, source, or just some plain good advice.

I will start...

I always sell a concept along with the domain. For example, purchase a domain with the development concept packed into it. If you have a domain called 10status.com (which alone is worthless) that could be sold with a complete outline of a user rating community website along with development guidelines.

You guys jump in and share some of your tips......

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

If you can do some graphic design (Photoshop, Fireworks, etc.), it can help to throw together a basic logo for the domain name and include the rights to it with the sale.

Right on good one....I like to use that too.

Try to make it as user friendly as possible, don't hold back. You remember that saying, overdeliver and something else attached to tag line.

Not to say be overbearing but just go above and beyond. People are iffy now a days buying sites, so ease their mind.

Be kind and helpful

Include marketing slogans to go with commercial domain names.

Don't sell on ebay (in my experience!)

Some things to look for and tell potential buyers!
List other similar names that are registered.
Search http://namebio.com/ and http://dnsaleprice.com/ (currently down because of server issues, will be back) to see if any domains similar to yours have sold for decent money.
If most of the major gTLDs are taken (.com,.net,.org,.info,.biz,.us) are taken, use that to your advantage!
Make a point about the rarity of the domain name you are selling.

Do your best at all costs to have the potential buyer make the initial offer. Most sales to end-users of mine come from direct phone call or email from the end-user, asking if the domain is for sale and if so, how much.

I always welcome them to make an initial fair market offer.

where from

So where is it best to list names for sale...from your own site, sedo, afternic etc? Forums on the whole seem to be a place for bargain hunters only and pretty poor with $ offers. Are some sites better for specific types of names i.e adult, internet etc? I just tried listing one at sedo and it got knocked back due to it violating some policy or other. Its a very low key adult name with no swear words contained in it so can't figure that out. Another sedo little quirk. Not sure the best place to list this for sale now.

Do you guys think a developed site sells better than a name that's just parked? None of my names are developed, but I've had a good number of sales from just being listed on Sedo, selling in auctions such as Moniker's, and from direct contact by end users. My opinion is that the end user isn't going to want to use whatever is on a developed site, but just wants the name. It would be nice to have the income a developed site brings in, but I don't know that it's worth the time and cost...especially with lots of names.

You have a point, I like to develop sites and in turn sell those sites to end users looking for a freshly developed site...a good example would be a freshly developed forum sitting on a good domain name with custom work done to it, I think would sell nicely to that perfect end user looking for just that.

make it a point to reply to all pm's and inquiries regarding the domain you're selling, do best with your pre-sales and post sales questions and they keep coming back.
mostly i applied it on my np$ services here and works like a charm over and over again.
