Setting keywords for parked domains

I actually have a couple questions.

1. If you have a domain name that is a keyword phrase do you set the keyword to that phrase or a higher traffic higher CPC keyword?

2. Does high or low competition have any affect on traffic when it comes to domain names?

I know a lot about SEO but I am a little confused about how this would work.

Hi Willmfftt

1- If the domain contains the keywords, it is not necessary. The algorithm of the parking companys detects this, and other parameters to set the main keyword, and thus, the correct adds.
But sometimes, you can force keywords, for expample if you hace low CTR (Click through rate) and the adds showed are not correct. It depends on what was the web former content.

2- No, high or low competition does not affect traffic. Can affect the income depending on the relation competition-CPC.

No. Traffic only depends on the "type inn" capacitys of the domain or the backlinks.

Some parking companys, like Domain Sponsor, let you set a title and keywords for SEO purposes, but we are talking about sites with no real content. And you guess, it's difficult to achieve good positioning in a keyword competitive environment.

Thats what I was thinking, but I was doing some reading and people were talking about how Bodis is good for euro traffic while sites like voodoo, domainsponser, etc are good for US traffic, which made me think that the parking services helped bring traffic into your domain. Thats what got me confused

I don't think you can set an arbitrary unrelated keyword. Otherwise take a domain with lots of junk traffic (e.g. expired porn), set keyword to some high paying keyword like mesothelioma, and get few but high paid junk clicks.

Otherwise, parking is effective when visitors find related adds to what they expected coming from a backlink. Here you have the chance to get clics.

I think a keyword or keyword phrase can help improve the ads, especially with numerical domains which may have another meaning.

For example, for my parking page for 24710 [dawt] com, I added "24/7 top 10 hits" as a keyword phrase.

That way, I can offer a potential buyer a possible use for it.

I don't think it will necessarily improve parking revenue, though.

well if some would click ads on the parked domain thinking it is a real thing, fewer would click even totally unrelated links trying to figure out "what the hell is this" and how come the website is not working. Would make it well worth to get couple of those $25 clicks rather than a hundred $0.01 ones

Yeah that would be worth it but to me it just wouldn't feel right. Like I am cheating lol. Plus the disorganization of having my keywords wrong would drive me nuts.

But anyway I am just going to find the highest CPC keyword that is related to the keyword of my domains

I just have few of my domains at SEDo and I was wondering how I can get find the highest CPC keywords?

Right now my main keyword is - android, but I get for it from German tarffic only 0.10EUR per click...

How I can find the highest paying keywords for german tarffic?

Please help!

This wouldn't work, because if the keyword is completely irrelevant, Google will start ignoring it and display whatever it thinks is right for this feed.

For those who are wondering how to optimize domain parking keywords, consider these simple tips;

Know your domain's traffic source and quality - by hosting the domains on your own server with traffic analyzer like Awstats. This feature is very common to cPanel. From there you will know geolocation and searched terms of your domains visitors. Use the searched terms as basis for your lander keywords. Know your visits geolocation so you''ll know what language to use for keywords and to what parking program will best monetize a foriegn traffic, for non-US.

Keyword Discovery - know what people are really searching that are related to your domain names. Get the top 15 highest searched kw and use them for the lander. It benefits users because you provide them with what they're searching that will result to a high probability for maximum CTR. KeywordDiscovery is also a good alternative for Overture keyword tool (OVT, now that's no longer working). It wouldn't show same result as OVT was providing us but it can be of help do determine rough estimate of domain with extension type-in numbers.

Adwords Keyword Tool - know how much advertisers are paying for particular keywords that are related to your domain name. Get the top paying, most searched that are synonymous to your traffic searches. Use this as "guide" to project possible revenue.

For expired domain traffic, use Google and Archive.org's Wayback machine for background and/or historical research.

Domain parking keyword optimization is be easy for everyone by using these basic methods and tools. This is also really helpful for other web marketing campaigns and SEO.

These simple process is very common to most parkers but can be of help to those who are learning and new.

Super helpful info... many thanks for the insight. But a question: if you are hosting the domain on your own server how is it still possible to park them with a parking service? I understood that the nameservers have to be pointing to the parking service, which would imply they aren't pointing to your server.

Perhaps I'm missing something obvious... still have much to learn. But thanks for clarifying.
