well somehow everyone dreams of having servers. but wa tis so good about them? there are resellers that make sub-resellers.. isnt it basicly wat servers do?the only difference is that reseller hosting costs way less. the only thing good about a server is that it has a lot of space and a lot of bandwith.but i can find resellers that have 20 gig space and sub-reseller maker for 10 dollars/month. and i can get more space and more bandwith if i just buy multiple reseller accounts. and it will save me money. wat do you htink?

With reseller accounts you still are limited to the actual server resource usage on the account since it is still technically a shared environment. Most hosts have clauses that if you go over a certain percentage in CPU usage that you will either be forced to upgrade or move out into a VPS or a dedicated server package. With resellers you get the nice convenience of letting us hosts do all the security and such but you are limited to what you can do and you will have to abide by all of our ToS and AuP rules. With a reseller you are basically restricted to the type of business you wish to run. While with a dedicated server you have all of the freedoms you want including managing the server the way you want, choosing the Operating system of your choice, running shell commands, and having full server resources at your command ;). I personally started off with a reseller account and eventually outgrew the resource allowances for my reseller account.

With a dedicated server I choose my most favorite Operating System which I think is the most secure and stable out of all of them (FreeBSD) and I was allowed to run the security standards, policies, and control panel system I though customers will have a better time dealing with ;). So as you can clearly see there are a lot more freedoms and benefits of running your own server as opposed to a reseller account.

You can find good quality unmanaged servers for $100. Actually by going with a server you are going to be saving money in the end.

Basically you have to remember that you will be constrained to the resource usage amounts because if you go over almost every host will tell you you will need to upgrade. Most resellers calculate their resources in order to provide quality and stability to the multiple users. So basically does it pay off to get 100% resources rather than a measley percentage? ($40 to $100)? I think the answer here is quiet simple yes? :D.

Like from HostGator (which is a rather high volume host with many many customers) you can see that their ToS (like many other hosts) will restrict you in overselling and with Resource Usages:

HostGator.com ToS said:
a) Use 25% or more of system resources for longer then 90 seconds. There are numerous activities that could cause such problems; these include: CGI scripts, FTP, PHP, HTTP, etc.

Why pay for half of the costs in order to use only 25% when you can pay $100 instead of $50 to have your own server and the speed and resources will be dedicated to you?

Yes this is in case you are a reseller host correct? (I'm also assuming you are not a free reseller host because in time your business will most likely fail as I have seen it all too often). Starting out a reseller is a great solution but once you reach a good customer base where you are making at least $100 profit and another $100 for the server. Then it is a good idea to get a reseller.

Another solution is a VPS they start at around $20 nowadays ;).

wat is VPS?

VPS(VPS = Virtual Private Server)/VDS (Virtual Dedicated Server) allows administrators to split system resources so basically you are guaranteed to get certain resources. It is like a dedicated server in every way (runs like one you can have multiple VPS/VDS with different operating systems) but it runs on just one server. Basically it's like you are splitting partitions and running multiple OS's only instead of just running one at a time you are running multiple servers at one time.

So basically to generalize it:
It's multiple platforms (multiple OS's or many copies of one OS) running different users all at the same time with specific dedicated resources for each account. It runs like a server but technically it's not your own full server. You administrate it and you run it how you want with whatever Control Panel or Operating System you want.

Now there is different technology for VPS.

Xen is proven to be the most reliable and outperforms the other VPS technologies. Upside to Xen is that you are guaranteed with what you get since administrators cannot oversell the resources. What they allocate is what they allocate and they cannot reuse it. Downside: Tends to run a little more on the expensive side.

Virtuozzo is the most popular VPS because it allows you to oversell and is relatively simple to employ and gives users a nice control panel (My personal taste is that I think it's very ugly :D). Virtuozzo servers usually tend to run cheaper since administrators can oversell server resources hoping that everybody won't overuse what they were allocated.

Well your post shows you havn't really looked into it, i see a lot of people here are giving you good advice so i will be short on mine.

You can install applications, restart it whenever you want, they will have a huge amount more resources for you to use.

For example a picture hosting site, im pretty sure most resellers won't allow once...it uses a lot of system resources.

i know there are scripts for picture hosting, what i said is most resellers won't allow you to use them as they are resource hoggers.
