Hi

If I delete cookies directly at the server (for a particular
site) will that mean the user will not see the site url in
their browser's url history list?

(if not, is there any other way to prevent an url from
showing in the url history list?.. or else substituting
another url in its place?).

If anyone can help me, I can pay.

Please help (pm me or reply to this thread!).

Best wishes,

Nope, a users history will always show the urls that they have visited unless they delete it on their end or change settings for it to not save etc.

You can not fake your url. If that were able it would be a crazy security flaw. I'm curious to know why you want to do this?

There is mod rewrite. This can change your url though it would still point to the same place. Though I think (possibly) you could have some sort of cron job that changes your mod rewrite every few minutes or so.

I imagine the terminology I have used may be a little over your head but trying to explain everything mod rewrite and crons jobs could take many paragraphs of writing.

You can not effect the users history list.
You can use a reverse proxy or mod_rewrite to hide the original URL. You can also use a forwarding service like Enom's that will keep the URL in the browser window from changing.

Google is your friend here.

When I first started making basic websites, I tried to make a dynamic site in simple javascript :hehe:
Everything was updatable via variables, and all the links used a certain javascript function which escapes me at the moment.

This function allows the user to be sent to a page, but the reffering page will not show up if the back button is pressed.
This meant that if someone followed a link from a forum to the site, then clicked an outgoing link, and then tried to get back to the page by pressing back, it wouldn't work.

I can't remember if it kept it in the url history, as it was a long long time ago I tried it.

When I get home I'll have a look for the function.

Like paaaaaaaaaa, I'm also curious to know why you'd want to do this :-/
