Hi Mods and Mems~

So if you want to setup a personal server to put domains online, without reseller accounts, just for your own, what does that take?

Can you use Apache with your cable isp?

Thanks, Kenny

Sometimes, it is usually agasinst your TOS, and some cable isps block incoming connections to the standard ports.

you would also probably need a static ip depending how you wish to configure your domains.

I recommend getting ADSL if you are wanting to run it off your PC.

One of my buddies has done it before - But he had lots of Problems

If you plan on building a Large Site - I'd suggest sticking with regular hosting Servers -

Hello,

First of all i would say don't bother.

Its not that hard to do, but you are very limited to what you can do. Your ISP might say that you have unlimited download. In fact you will not, If you read there terms and conditions you will find a limit, If you go over this is can be classed as abuse to the network, Which could result in your ISP terminating your account and charging you for extra bandwidth.

If you are planning on selling hosting to clients then you will need a fast connection and Bandwidth will ammount up in GB, Trust me.

Lets say you are paying $29.99 per month for your internet connection with your ISP, Why not go out and bye a dedicated server for $80 per month. Ok it a little more than $30 per month but in the end you have more space and fast connection.

Well hope that helps a little.

Thanks everyone for your input....

It wouldn't be for re-seller at all, and the sites would be simple, light graphics, and only 2-3 pages set-up to learn how adjusting the SEO (linked pages, forwarding, keyword to content ratio, etc.) works.

Since all are new reg's with low traffic, how much will this affect the bandwidth? We dont want issues with the Cable ISP. Also, there are 3 other computers (wireless and the server would be hardwired) running off the router.... would this be a problem?

If anyone has attempted this, please share your expierences, positive and negitive.

Thanks NP'er's, Kenny

Is it really that simple WebGear? It's Apache 1 3 and will this work with XP Pro?

BTW, nice to see the .WS ext's out there earning!!! Your Active.ws and Visitors.ws are both attractive and simple with popular services offered, and are now in My Favorites.
Good luck with them both.
