I would like to learn which pricing model these medium and high level SEO companies are using and why they are using those models.

Generally per month or per hour. Reputable SEO companies don't guarantee placements, it's about doing the analysis and ongoing work to identify, gain and maintain visibility for keywords that produce measurable business results. (more customers, more leads, more sales, wider reach, etc.).

I do not know how big SEO companies do this, but my personal suggestion is pay per hour or a fixed amount per week or per month. One cannot be sure about when or if a site will show improvement in SERPs: so I think pay per result can create problems. It takes quite sometime for a site SEO work to show good results.

It really depends on the company, the size of the individual project, etc.

I know for me, I do link building for clients and I charge per package, i.e. $x for a package of xx diversified links. So again, it really depends on the company, your project and especially the type of work being done.

I think normally is to pay for results. For example make a contract with the client (4-5 month contract). In this contract you specify:

- if the site pointed first page for the keywords......... in this interval the client must pay ........
- if the site pointed second page for the keywords......... in this interval the client must pay ........

Normally they will charge per action. They'll explain how they do to optimize your site, and charge according to what they did.

Per month

Charge per month and agree on some targets. Any potential client who wants instant results does not understand the process. If you explain the long term nature of SEO to them and they still don't get it, move on, because they won't be a happy client.
