Anyone have any experience with this? If so how effective would you say it was at marketing your site? also how would i go about doing this myself? have i got to buy mailing lists etc?

I have no experience but I doubt its very successful. Any email I get from companies I don't even read. It gets trashed instantly.

That's just you though, there's lots of gullible people out there.
I think i might repost this thread in one of the main forums, it's not very busy in this one.

Spam is not worth the problems you will receive from it. Your web hosting will be shut down, your domains blacklisted, your email servers added to the blackhole lists...even may be sued now in any of the states with anti-spam laws.

There are no legitimate 'opt-in' lists that you can just go purchase. 'Opt-In' means that someone is specifically requesting your e-mail. If you run a site, you can have signups for your newsletter or annoucements list -- that would be a mailing list that you can use. Don't buy a list that's been sold to a thousand people already.
