This type of market does emerge. I remember when i played Starcraft back in the day on b.net, people would sell generic names and names that had "illegal" characters in them. They didnt get like thousands of dollars but did get a fair amount. Prolly get more for them now.

Isn't this how the aftermarket of domains emerged?

I can see it .
I've been asked to sell my email and my truck plates so why not a user name. Especially if your service, company or product is the same.

The reason there is a market for youtube accounts is because at the moment there's a big fad of using youtube videos to drive traffic to CPA offers. People are using bots to download videos from you tube, watermark them, then re-upload them. People are also using bots to increase the number of views a video has so that it has a higher chance of reaching more users. This gets accounts banned on a fairly regular basis and people involved in this "marketing" tactic always need new ones.

Not a huge investment opportuinity here IMO, because these accounts tend to sell in bulk in quantities of about 500 at a time. The price for 500 youtube accounts? definitely less than 50 bucks from what i've seen on other forums.

Yes but people want their generic name or product name to host a channel. It actually makes more sense than it sounds. But in all reality i say just get a domain....

like Ross said, generic and product names is the name of the game,
if I own furniture.com, and im hosting or want to host a furniture channel on YouTube, i want the blue link to say Furniture, not FurnitureABC, for all the reasons you are already familiar, plus SEO.

only if you have the old youtube account which can host up to 1024mb of videos like I do and have.

About uploading...

Uploads usually take 1-5 minutes per MB on a high-speed connection, and converting your video takes a few minutes.

Your video is limited to 10 minutes and 1024 MB.

Actually the best part of it is when the videos are ranking for example the guitar videos which viewed million times, you can just embed your cloaked link of affiliate product related to guitar and you could earn. Imagine having millions of visitors or possible visitors in your channel.

I have never been approached to sell any usernames, but my phone number might attract some interest at some point... ending in 7777 - businesses love same digit numbers.

yeah, i just remembered mostly those buying youtube accounts will use it for blackhat seo purposes. the sooner you buy the account, the sooner it gets closed.

My last post on here was just a joke, guess it was deleted.

I think it is possible for there to be value on youtube names, but the truth is that people find youtube channels through two main ways: through google and within youtube itself. In fact, I would bet if you asked anyone what the name extentions of their top 5 favorite youtube channels were, they would get them wrong unless they were very obvious or promoted directly on their channel. And no one is like, I want to see some videos with cute kittens in them, so I'll type in youtube.com/cutekittens - they just go to youtube and search there.

That being said, the names would have two main advantages - google indexing, in case someone searches for cute kittens videos or cute kittens youtube in google, and second, brandable names, where you can brand your channel with a catchy name like RachelTV or something like this that Rachel would prefer over say, rachelsspecialchannel111.

There are some issues, is it even legal to buy large amounts of them and sell them? I doubt youtube would like this, probably violates their tos in some way, or if it doesn't right now, they will throw in a clause or two very quickly once they realize its happening. Domains are not owned by a private coorperation. And second, who would buy them? Better get in touch with other coorperations or something because the kid who just got a webcam could care less what his username is.
