from what i've read, a lot of people recommend using escrow.com or escrowdns.com sell my domain.

but my if my domain currently resides with godaddy, wouldnt i be just as well off selling it through their auctions? i spoke to them on the phone yesterday, and they seem to handle the auction, the transfer of money, and the transfer of the domain.

so is there any downside of going through them?

this is the first domain i've tried to sell but i have a couple domains that i'm looking to get rid of and need some direction. thanks!

I've never sold a domain from GD's platform, but yes, I suppose if they offer escrow services than I don't see why not, it's just like selling your domains at sedo and using their services.

I only use escrow when I've sold a domain name through a platform that doesn't offer those services.

While it can be done it's probably not the best option.
Make sure you understand the terms, how you will get paid, the time frame for completing the transaction etc.

If you already have a buyer then I don't think there is an upside using godaddy really, even if the name resides there. It's best to deal direct with the buyer and set up escrow yourself just between the two parties.

PS: search the forum, there have been related threads like this one:

I think selling through Godaddy is okay if you don't have another buyer or know the buyer, but it can take a long time to receive payment. However, if you can get more money then go for it.

if the sale about goes over $499 they will send it to escrow.com anyway. Might as well just do it through escrow.com if you already have the buyer lined up. Godaddy pays paypal which can be nice but seems like it takes forever.

Not necessarily. I sold a domain for 599, another for 650 USD in October 2010 and Godaddy paid me with paypal. ฤฑt was a fixed price sale. The domains were registered at godaddy. I clicked a button to push the domain to buyer.

sixrfan,
Never sell a domain at Godaddy if it's not registered at godaddy.
If it is registered at godaddy then click the "cash in" button to list it. Once listed forward the domain to its godaddy listing page.

After you have sold the domain, to go godaddy.com / auctions / selling / sold, and here you will see that it says, "payment received waiting for authorisation". Now you need to wait 5 days for payment clearance.

However Godaddy (stupidly) sends an email to buyers telling them they need to contact you to get the domain. Some buyers might contact you immediately and ask for the domain. You need to explain them that they need to wait 5 days for payment clearance. Tell them to go inside godaddy.com / auctions / buying / won / where they can see the status, if they don't believe you.

After 5 days you will see here a a button that says "push to buyer". Click that button. However it is not done yet. The buyer needs to accept the domain into his account. Some buyers might not know how to accept a domain push. You need to help them out.

Send him this message (inside godaddy.com / auctions / selling / sold / you will see a link to email the buyer):

I pushed the domain to your account but you need to accept it into your account. Please follow these steps:

1: Login to your Godaddy account.
2: On top right, click on the black button that says "My Account".
3: Check this image: http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/1168/godaddy.gif
4: On the left side, click on "MY ACCOUNT" that you see in the image. This will expand sub menu items.
5: Click on "Pending Account Changes" and accept the domain.

20 Days after the buyer has paid godaddy, you will receive %95 of that payment into your paypal.

I see they moved the cut off amount from 500 to 1000 this summer

That is A LOOOOOOOOOONG TIME TO WAIT!

I paid for a domain at sedo on 12/02/10 and it is still yet to be in my account. Its usually only takes me some 24hours to transfer domains between different registrars where no sale is involved. Why does it drag on and on when a sale and 'agents' are involved!

so i had to sign up for a godaddy auction membership ($4.99 per year).

I then listed my domain under the "Basic Listing", which means, for better or worse:
1. GOOD - it costs nothing to list it in the auction. It gets listed for 7 days.
2. GOOD - Godaddy takes 5-7% commission depending on whether the sale price is over or under $1k.
3. BAD - It gets buried in the auction listings because they list about a million different domain names so unless someone is specifically typing the-name into the search, i have a feeling it will never be found. I guess I have to mention it on message boards like this to generate interest because it will never get any eyes on it, being buried in the godaddy auctions.

My other option, which I'll give a try after this 7day "Normal Listing" auction expires will be the "Premium listing" which, has these specs:
1. BAD - Godaddy takes 30% commission. Oy!
2. BAD - The listing lasts 7 days and it costs $19.99 each time I list it. So if I don't sell in the first 7 days, and I want to relist under premium, there goes another $19.99.
2. GOOD - It gets listed on the homepage so that people can actually stumble upon it and its visibility is increased dramatically to those who are just surfing the listing of available domains.

so that's where it stands right now. i'll let you know what happens. wish me luck!

so i had no success with my basic godaddy listing. i'm really not too keen on the idea of paying $19.99 to godaddy for the same result.

anyone have any suggestion on where the best place is to find a buyer?

if i understand the process correctly, i do not go to escrow to find a buyer. instead once the buyer and i agree to terms, we then go to escrow to handle the transaction??? is that right???

I suppose that Namepros and Sedo are the most preferable places to sell and buy domains names.

thanks. but is my understanding of the process correct?

yes, you can also skip the escrow if your buyer is willing to take some risk.

so if i were to use sedo or namepros, those services handle everything? including the money transfer and domain transfer? and any risk would be on the buyer's end?

i just dont understand who handles the money? are sedo and namepros where i find the buyers, then we need to process it through escrow? or if we dont use escrow and just use paypal, then the risk is on the buyer's side????

this is very unclear to me and i'm hoping someone can clearly outline how this process works. :? :? :?

sixrfan,
If you mention some of your best domains you might get better help. Where and how to sell domains changes according the quality of your domains. You ask too many questions without giving any information on what you are trying to sell.

sorry, i'm new at this.

one domain I wish to sell is vintageunis.com.

most of the domains i plan to sell are probably on part with this one. not blockbusters. but there's some value in their names.

they all currently reside at Godaddy.

please advise. thanks!

vintageunis.com has zero resale potential.

I can see you are trying to sell this domain here for $300 however you would be lucky if you can sell it for $10.
http://www.namepros.com/domains-for...eunis-com-perfect-vintage-sports-jerseys.html

vintageunis.com 0/100 score
vintageuniforms.com has 15/100 score
cooluniforms.com has 65/100 score
myuniforms.com has 95/100 score

I'm using a custom software that is under development at the moment, to score the resale potential of a domain. You need to come up with better domains like in the last two examples above, if you want to sell a domain.

wow! that's not good i guess :( i thought there was some value there. if i could even get $100 for it i would be happy. but for $10, i dont know what to do. i might as well not even renew it.

well what about these two domains:
greenrefurbishing.com and greenrefurbish.com

think there's any value there or am i just wasting my time?
