Hi Everyone.

Ok, I am new over here, and need a few marketing and selling tips.

So far, I have put together a Domain Portfolio, and am auctioning a number of domains out there and am experiencing difficulty selling them on the Go Daddy Auction place.... No bites, or traffic, or views etc....

I am one that would not like to let a "good domains" to go for $20-$200 bucks....and I would rather hold on to it with the hope of the right time and customer comes along, (as opposed to sell it for pennies).....

With all the news I am hearing, that people are selling their domain (for 15k, 20k or 40k)- here in there, I am just thinking if - I am at the wrong auction places...... (Is it that - the exposure at Go Daddy auction to restrictive in people finding the domains for auction)...

Tried Sedo - but they are very selective in what domains you have. Plus they want to put it at the auction below $100...

I have read somewhere on this forum - That chinese domain market places are going crazy with sales!!!

Appreciate any tips, PLUS if there is any other auction places other then Go Daddy and SEDO????

Many thanks

tcdom

Try DNX.com & Flippa.com

Flippa charges a fee while DNX has a review process and rejects a large percentage of submissions due to low-quality or a price deemed to be unlikely to result in a sale.

For opportunities look the above list - but maybe the difficulty dont relate to the autionplace but to the quality of your domain? - Random domains doesnยดt sell in the 15-40K range.

You shouldn't be auctioning domains if you want a high price. You need a make offer or fixed price sales listing. I think if you are not getting any bites, traffic, or views on Sedo and GoDaddy, then the quality of your domains won't sell for $XXk. Perhaps, you could give us a link to your domains at Sedo, or provide a sampling here, so we can give you our opinion on their value.

the chances are you wont have names worth 15k, 20k or 40k if you are new to the business, be happy with sales of $20-$200 when starting out, if you are smart, the $1K+ sales will come

Feel free to post some names so you can get an idea of what people think they are worth

These domains are listed on Godaddy auctions. I will be honest, I have them all listed at $35k.. Probably too much to ask for I guess.....

Yes - there are a few that suck AND I regret buying them ( as a result being new to the business and bad purchase decision) ..... but I have to say some of them are good too.... AND I am tryin to be very selective in what I buy goin forward...........

I have been told.... that GODADDY is the king of all auction places. Perhaps because of all the domains and exposure they get out there as registrars.

Tried SEDO - but no luck......

I mean you hear stories that a real "mediocre average name" sometime goes for insane $$$ amounts......

Its frustratin when you get no bites.. and the fact that the renewal cost also piles up - on the good ones that you just do'wanna give them up.....hoping someones snaps them up....

I guess patience is the name of the game....

To me it is clear the issue is the quality of the names and the pricing. None of the domains listed is worth 35k. A couple might be worth a few hundred dollars and others registration fee.

This is not industry news or an appraisal thread โ€ฆโ€ฆ.. lots of info in the newbie section

On a positive note I will say these are OK names for a newbie - pretty much all two-word .COM domains. On the other hand, they are the type of names that should be priced $250-$349 and maybe you get lucky with one bite that pays for the lot. IMO the only one worth renewing is AutoJunkers.com

The vast majority of registered domains will never sell... domain sales are the exception.
Unless you have exceptional domains (and a bit of luck) then the odds are stacked against you.
All I can say is: read read read read read and research more.
The only way to make sales it to own the right domains, the kind of stuff that people will want to buy.

Your domains seem to be freshly registered, if they were so great how come they were not taken ten years ago ? What makes you think you will easily resell them at a profit ?

Do you realize that 100 millions domains are registered in .com alone, a good chunk of which are for sale ? Obviously, there is not enough demand to absorb that enormous supply.

Note that realtor is TM.

Patience is definitely the name of the game. I would say you'd be lucky to sell any of those domains over $1k. If you get any offers on those domains, accept them and move on. Don't try waiting for a higher offer, which may never come.

As all the rest stated. Your domains are not 15K to 40K quality at all. I suggest a lot more reading into this business and stop all buying of domains. You really have to get a grasp on what sells, who is doing the buying and why, etc. So much work goes on behind the scenes but when people hear "hey this domain sold for $35,000 I can do that"...no you cant most of the time.

New domainers undergo a sequence of phases that's just about universal. Everybody has done pretty much the same thing.

First, they go out and hand-register a lot of domains that have not attracted anybody in the entire worldwide industry over the past decade or two.

Second, they list them for outlandish prices because they're afraid to sell too cheaply.

Third, they wonder why nobody is buying.

It's normal. But it's a huge waste of human energy -- not to mention money.

The right way to get started in the domain industry would be this:

(1) Spend nothing.
(2) Read everything
(3) Watch what's selling
(4) Meet someone you trust
(5) Try selling domains owned by others for a commission.
(6) Once you've gone through this apprenticeship, you'll know what to buy, how much to buy it for, how to handle domain transfers and escrow, how to identify buyers, how to run auctions, how to negotiate ... In short, you'd learn how to make a profit and not waste time.

When you think about it, this is the way people learn to succeed everywhere else. There are no courses for making money in the domain industry that I would recommend paying for. So how do you learn? You learn as an apprenticeship.

I wish I'd done it that way. Few people do. But those who do start making more money sooner.

If you haven't registered too many domains yet than you are still in a good position. If you do not intend to develop the names then you must focus on quality over quantity. Short names and domains with past sales history and good stats will fetch you money. Hand registering a domain is unlikely to give you a good sales price in the reseller market. Instead of registering another 50 domains that will unlikely sell, save your money and buy a good name or a couple good names that will be easier for you to sell. Then start building a portfolio of great.names and over time your portfolio will be very valuable

Also just want to add....

In today's market I see many crappy domains that have been developed into nice websites that sell for good money. The domain name is not so important anymore for seo. The only benefit to having a good exact match domain [EMD] would be to capture type in traffic from search. So when considering a domain to register you should focus on .com extensions that have good google monthly searches. There is a formula you can use to estimate how much type in traffic an EMD may receive.

You can also try bido.com to sell your domains
Bido can be a good place to get far more than you would in most other marketplaces for your crap names. Crap names are those names you may have hand registered, asked for an appraisal or tried to sell on auctions like here on namepros and got no responses. So if you registered a domain for $9.99 you could sell on bido for $38, which for a crap name is a good return.

What is the formula?

What is the formula?
Here you go:

[Exact Number of Monthly Searches via Google Planner] *
[0.02 Type Ins] *
[0.50 CTR] *
[0.60 * Average CPC for US location only]

= estimated earning for a premium parked domain $/month
