Which do you feel is most desirable across the board:

____channel.com

or

____.tv

(example: ATLchannel.com or ATL.tv)

Please understand that MOST of the ____.tv will be premium where the _____channel.com can be had for under $7/yr. I know this is posted in the .tv forum so the opinions will most likely be biased but I was looking for other's opinions.

I try to buy as many ___channel.com for the ____.tv i own.

I truly believe in the KeywordTV.com format and have done for quite some time so can understand your dilemma between KeywordChannel.com and Keyword.TV.

When .TV takes off the fact you will have bought (for example) ATL.tv will mean you have a far better name than ATLChannel.com. From a branding point of view there is NO contest.

At this very moment in time (where most people can't see further ahead than their breakfast and the rest just want to see the world in the black and white of what's happening yesterday) I would suggest that ATLChannel.com has more value than ATL.tv (considering any premiums).

However, if I was spending MY money on either of those names I would buy ATL.tv without even blinking an eye.

NOTE: I would also have bought ATLTV.com at the same time!!!

My personal preference will always go to pure generics and pure geos, and from this point of view, I will always prefer Generic.TV or Geo.TV rather than GenericChannel.com or GeoChannel.com (or all the TV.com, TV.tv, etc. as it's being discussed before in this subforum).

But to get a non-biased reply to your question, I've tried to gather some hard facts about the current market.

I've gathered all the reported sales from 2008 (that would be the current market) for KeywordChannel.com and Keyword.TV.

VitaminChannel.com : $2,613 (Afternic)
SoftChannel.com : $2,000 (Afternic)

SchoolChannel.com : $3,000 (Afternic)
LotteryChannel.com : $3,400 (Afternic)
JazzChannel.com : $2,300 (Afternic)
GourmetChannel.com : $4,650 (Afternic)
Betting-Channel.com : $136 (Sedo)

Keyword.TV : 173 reported sales found in 2008
The 5 highest ones in 2008 so far are :
fussball.tv : $28,367 (Sedo)
televisions.tv : $25,000 (Sedo)
viajar.tv : $12,647 (Sedo)
it.tv : $12,500 (Sedo)
businesschannel.tv : $10,000 (Sedo)

So in the current market, Keyword.TV is much more successful than KeywordChannel.com. Many many more sales, much higher amount.

Personally, I would definately prefer Keyword.tv over a KeywordChannel.com, eg. would prefer Sports.tv over SportsChannel.com. You haven't mentioned anything about KeywordTV.com but I would also prefer owning SportsTV.com over SportsChannel.com as well, but after Sports.tv

Id develop a keyword.tv (with keywordTV.com forwarded) as my first choice as a developer.

As a domainer I wouldnt want to be sitting on a number of premium renewal fees so would prefer in this order:
keywordTV.com
keywordtv.tv or keywordchannel.com
keyword.tv

There is also a big difference between a $100 vs $1000 vs $10000 premium renewal fees so that would be a factor.

I hate and avoid 'the' or 'my' names in all extensions.

IMO there is no mindset for Channel.com only 9 have sold in 08 and 7 were bought by the same buyer Ecorp.

I could not give away MelbourneChannel.com and included it with the sale of MelbourneTV.tv. I have nothing against Channel.com but they are not selling like anything crazy.

i voted for this one and given it many thoughts.

the keyword channel.com concept is just a good format but just would rather own a nice .tv name even if it has a 500 a year fee...however there are many one words in .tv format without a yearly rental fee.

Definately without. Adding "the" in front of it really kills the value of the name.

I think to domainers the .tv is more valuable, but is it to the general public?
For example, let's take the average tv/computer user who is not into domain names. Would they look up the TravelChannel.com , or Travel.tv? I think the Travel.tv would look weird to them, and they would automatically go to the TravelChannel.com . Even while watching television, I think they are used to seeing something like TravelChannel.com, more than Travel.tv.
Don't get me wrong, of course I am a .tv fan, and wish they would go for the Travel.tv. Maybe it is just a matter of time, and people will get used to seeing .tv's more and more. Let's hope so.

From SEO prospect, I will definitely prefer keyword.tv than _channel.com.
A nice keyword can easily raise your sit ranking during Google search.

definitely .tv
keywordchannel.com is no better than any other .com brand add-on, and there are thousands - wiz, mate, guide, etc etc. whilst keyword.tv is going to be as common as keyword.net, so a winner.
steer clear of any premium .tvs you can't afford the renewals for, and put the money towards a generic .com, .net, .org - or even .info IMHO

I would take the pure .tv any day over a channel.com or channel.tv
