Sedo's Fees Outlandish?

Let me firstly say I have never sold a domain name through Sedo untill today, I am not normally one to complain but I think Sedo's fees are much much too high for the service provided. I have just sold an LLL.mobi at Sedo through the auction process, see here: http://www.sedo.co.uk/auction/auction_history.php?language=e&auction_id=10326&tracked=&partnerid=
Now I think that domain should have recieved more bids and I am wondering about how much exposure this domain actually received? Sedo are going to take a big fat $50 out of that $280 leaving me $230, which leads me to think I should have sold the domain here or on eBay.

Your comments are appreciated. Sorry if I sound like a complainer, I was expecting more for this domain.

Thanks.
Jas.

Little less than 20%, but how much did you think the name was worth?
10% is the absolute minimum, and to hit the 10% mark it would have had to sell for $500... a stretch, :imho:
Even if it was $5k, the percent is clearly posted, and fair for the services provided (So long as they provide them well - none of the 3 week delays of yester-month).
But then again, I'm a lifelong apologist ;)

Hi Allan, thanks for your comments. Yeah I guess I was thinking between $350 & $400 for that one. My main concern is how much exposure does sedo give to it's auctions? Ie how many people actually saw the auction? Would I have had more success listing the domain on eBay with maybe 5 times the amount of people looking at it? eBay would have only charged a few dollars for the sale but would the domain have gone higher than say $240 on eBay?

I think you get socked with the $50 minimum if the domain is not parked at Sedo. Otherwise it's 10% I recently sold a domain for $70 and they were going to take $7. Though my transaction never went through. The buyer paid right away, but after sending the AUTH code I waited 3-4 weeks and didn't hear anything. Someone else was interested in it, so I sent Sedo an email telling them I was canceling the transaction. The very next day I got a transfer request... Little too late.

10% would be lovely. The domain is in fact parked at sedo, does this mean they have made a mistake? http://ggk.mobi/

You should email them about it.

Probably...MOBIs are only a flat 10% these days, so there should only have been a $28 fee...

Sedo's been screwing this up routinely lately. Not sure if it's some strategy to make a few extra bucks or what not. Doesn't seem so hard to do correctly

Same thing happened to me with pokerlinks.mobi, still waiting for the correction to take place in my account. Sedo admitted it was a mistake and said they would correct it. As of now, it still says in my contract sedo commission is $50 off a $80 dollar sale that was parked at sedo. No name transfer til this happens, I'll keep the domain and lose my account first.

Addressing the exposure issue. The domain would appear in the Auction Listing section on their front page for just under the last day of the auction. I think that's pretty good exposure. For the other six days it would appear if you click the "more" button.

Yeah but how much exposure does sedo.com actually get and what "type" of exposure? It is odvious to me that I should have sold the domain here on the forums or eBay. I have been waiting for a long time to list a domain with the sedo auction process but after this experience I feel that sedo is not all it is cracked up to be. The parking revenue is very small and the overall service is very average. I think it is time to explore other options. I also think that sedo is (for me anyway) was a lazy way to sell domains.

That's not the way it works, unfortunately. Compare the front page at any given point to what's actually finishing up in the full auction list, and you'll see that it's not a list of all finishing auctions.

In fact, and this has been a pet peeve of mine for a while, MOBI auctions (as well as several other extensions), no matter how big, never show up on the front page. So no, his auction would not have gotten that type of exposure at all.

seems they only took 10% from me. I had one marked 200 and I ended up with 180$

It was however a long process for me to sell the name. I had to do something that I had never done b4, then push it to sedo's account.. The sale took place, but it took 3 weeks for me.

Sedo are always that slow. Sometimes even worse.

If they charge more, they could afford to give better customer service and hence give better opportunities for your domain. I tend to think that you get what you pay for here and Sedo gives great value for your money considering that you don't have to pay anything up front.

If that is value for money I am in the wrong business, can someone please please get their act together and give these guys some "REAL" competition, if I had the funding I would definately get something happening but as it stands I am not in a financial position to do so.
