Sedo Tasting?

I've noticed several domains listed on Sedo that aren't actually registered. Has anyone else noticed this? For example...

I estiboted Boutiques.cc before I purchased it. It said "This Domain Is For Sale" so I checked it out. It had like 7 views and 1 offer. Now I know this wasn't an old listing, because it only had seven views. Since I've listed it, it's received 12 views in 3 days. SOOO....this HAD to be a fake listing.

Also, I noticed a lot of the domains at SaveSpell.com (by the way, great website, they scan word lists on a bunch of extensions and everyday it lists new available single word domains for you to grab, and in multiple languages)...anyways, I noticed a lot of the domains that come out on this website are almost instantly listed on Sedo but never really registered. I know, because I checked.

And now, just a minute ago, I estiboted a single word dot biz that IS available and I just checked it, and it's fake listed on Sedo. One view. Hmm.

What's going on here? I thought Sedo verified somehow? Are folks just listing domains to see how well they do and THEN registering them?

Just thought It'd be nice to figure this whole thing out.

Thanks
Justin

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Are these dropped domains? If you buy a domain that was not removed by the previous owner from the sedo parking the figures will still be on there.

Well, I thought about that. And like I said, boutiques.cc only had about 7 views, which means it couldn't have been listed for more than 2 days or so. AND it had an offer...now If I had an offer in 2 days, I don't think I'd be letting it drop. And even if it HAD dropped, it would have had WAY more views considering I'm sure they'd "taste" the domain longer than 2 days???

The thing with sedo stats is that they only show stats for the month so it would depend on the day of the month as to how many views it shows.

to get a domain to SEDO they must verify ownership with the WHOIS , if they can't they email you to email them from the administrative email or change the nameservers to theirs ... therefore I don't think a domain can get in SEDO without being owned by someone (though that cannot be said with absolute certainty)

logically it is just a dropped name ... especially since you see some of them in a site listing expiring domains ... the owner just dropped the name and forgot to delete the SEDO listing ...

supposing that the 12 uniques per 3 days are somewhat constant , the 7 uniques could be from only the last couple of days of the 32-day period SEDO tracks , ie. the domain was deleted or the nameservers changed to the registrar's nameservers after expiration (or some time after expiration) , about 28-30 days before you checked it ... and therefore the rest of the uniques have "purged" ... the offers stay on from many months before ...

lastly , I think SEDO uniques sometimes are a little faulty , I had a couple of domains that had the nameservers elsewhere and on their stats I still saw a couple of uniques for them ... though it could also be from a fault at the bulk nameservers change in the registrar (ie. the nameservers for some domains did not change)

Caches can send stray hits long after nameservers have been changed.

But I have noticed that often Estibot says a domain is for sale even though I know it is available to reg.

To list a name on Sedo, you have to have the Nameservers pointed to Sedo, if not, your addition to Sedo will be rejected. Therefore, the name has to be 1st registered.

The name was probably added, then the person dropped the name because they didn't want it so you were able to re-register it.
