On the "about us" section on sedo ( http://www.sedo.com/about/index.php3 ), they claim they have sold 5000 domains since Jan 1, 2003. With 1,6 domains for sale, that is only one sale for every 320 domains. Afternic has sold approx 4000 domains ( http://www.afternic.com/names.php?sold=1 ) in the last 6 months and has many 10000's for sale.

Does it mean that buying and selling domains is not realy a good idea?

What do you prefer? Domain buying & selling, domain parking, or site development?

Keep in mind that there are other places domains can be sold. And it's not really about "how many" domains have sold, but for "how much". If you price your domains right, they will sell.
I could put together a garbage site with a bunch of horrible domain names and TRY to sell them for $15,000 each. Am I going to sell any? It'd be amazing if I did. This doesn't mean that reselling domains is a bad idea. It all depends on you and what you want.

I would love to develop all of my domains. But honestly I prefer paid parking... Much less work. The problem is that some domains are better for parking, others are better for reselling or development. When in doubt, keep trying until you find something that works.

and remember often buyers and sellers opt to act outside of afternic or sedo for the actual transaction for various reasons.

I have sold a few here :hehe:

A few others are from people who have sent me an email and I have just sold one from someone who called me by phone :o

If the names good, the buyer will find you, if the name is ok you and the buyer will work together, if the name is sh**t, you will have to do all the work :imho:

It seems that in order to park domains at Afternic you have to buy the $25 membership...correct? Sedo, of course, is free.

It's a 19.95 membership per year (used to be 9.95) to ensure serious people post their domains... that's trivial in the long run- if you sell one name with them it more than covers it. I have all my names listed on both sedo and afternic and i"ve sold 2 through sedo and 2 thru afternic.
