Search Term in URL

Anybody Insight into this?

For some time, Google seems to have been giving a notable amount of creedence on SERPs to any search term existing within the URL. Best results seem to be coming up when the search term exactly matches the URL.

Has anybody noticed google ranking the search terms based on whether or not they are a TLD? For example, would the three sites below (lets consider equivalent pagerank/optimization) be ranked by Google in any particular order:

www.Cowboy.com
www.Cowboy.net
www.Cowboy.cc

I'm just wondering if I need to pickup the TLD or .com URL in order to ensure I come up high on the SERPs for some search terms that I am working on. Most aren't available in .com and some are only available in .cc or .tc, etc...

As far as I have noticed the TLD thing doesn't make much difference, and whats more it depends on the type of site you are registering it for. For a small buisness which has its main client base in the uk for example the domain extension .co.uk is becoming well recognised and respected amongst the british public - rather than a .com extension since it gives the consumer a sense of where the company is based and respectiable british sites use it (e.g. bbc.co.uk, smile.co.uk etc). However, if you want a truely international site then you won't alienate users if you use .com/.net/biz/.info/.org etc

I think that having keywords in the url does make a difference though, I mean it's a sure indicator that your site meets the users needs. However if the site has an existing brand offline, then its probably best to stick with that.

I started a post around here somewhere a while ago about google and the TLDs and decided that google does not treat a site better over another because of its TLD.. And it makes since since google are dedicated to accurate information

As for the keywords in your domain i know various search engines look at the url for keywords but for google this is only one tiny factor in the overall ranking process..
