Search Engine Indexing Experiment

This is a marketing test to see the search engine indexing result of a single forum post.

I've chosen a domain that has never been used before and has not resolved to an actual site before today. It will not be linked to or promoted from anywhere else, except this very post until the conclusion of this experiment.

The goal is to see if it will be indexed, and if it is, how long it took from the time of the initial posting. This is far from scientific and I acknoledge there may be many other factors at work here. So lets see how it works.

24 Hour Sites

The time is now 4:30 PM PST on Monday January 12, 2003. Feel free to post a guess on when, if ever, this site will appear in Google, Inktomi, or any of the other search engines.

-RJ- shouldn't you have a document type declaration at the top. And you have no keywords in the meta. Does that not affect indexing, or just where it gets indexed?

that doesn't necessarily tell you whether Google has it RJ. Take one of the domains I have parked for example, www.superbowl-houston.com (bought it to late to develop :'( ). If you run that search in google it tells you that it doesn't know anything about superbowl-houston.com.

However, if you enter a search query for superbowl and houston, it comes out as about 4th or 5th on the page.

Hope this helps.

Yep, darn good guess, SG. I was expecting it to take much longer.

Domain still has a 0/10 pagerank, but comes up first for "24 hours sites" in quotation marks, and 2nd without quotations. Not that anyone is searching for that term, but it's good to know when promoting less popular search terms.

Hmm - does it not index any links in the signatures?

If you want to see a site indexed within 24hours, install the Google Toolbar, visit the domain, and vote for the site with smiley face.

Works for me most times.

Great tip. I'm going to have to test that! Let's build a site with an unindexed domain and happy face vote it and see if it works.
