it seems to be just a directory styled website

the directory being searchable

is there a spider of any kind? what makes it a search engine? what are the extra features

Well there's instant inclusion, ability to add 25 links at once, and for each result title there is a hovering text box that appears when your roll your mouse over it. The text box will give you a summary of what the site has to offer and if you would like to click on that link. No there is no spider.
