A defiant Saddam Hussein pleaded innocent to charges of murder and torture as his long-awaited trial began Wednesday with the one-time dictator arguing about the legitimacy of the court and scuffling with guards.

The first session of the trial lasted about three hours, and the judge ordered an adjournment until Nov. 28.

He faces a possible execution by hanging.. my take is he won't be given a "fair" trial...

Well considering that Saddam once had a dislike for that judge...and now that judge is going to sentence him..

Yes, it will be difficult to have an impartial ruling, but his defense teams has certainly had sufficient preparation time and resources. Clearly the deck is stacked against him here, and the case is likely over before it begins. So will the trial be "fair"? Certainly not. Will it be "just"? We shall see.

Definately wont be a fair trial, we'll be very lucky if we see one....

Though, i dont condone capital punishment in this case...

the only reason why i don't think capital punishment is wise on this one is cuz it might not be a fair trail, and that could turn things around and arouse sympathy for sadam, or martyr the bastard.

Agreed.. I'm not "soft" on the bad guys, but I believe anyone deserves a fair trial.
