BAGHDAD, Iraq: Iraq's High Tribunal on Sunday found Saddam Hussein guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced him to hang for the 1982 killing of 148 Shiites in the city of Dujail. The visibly shaken former leader shouted "God is great!"

Saddam's half brother and former intelligence chief Barzan Ibrahim, and Awad Hamed al-Bandar, head of the former Revolutionary Court, were sentenced to join Saddam on the gallows for the Dujail killings after an unsuccessful assassination attempt during a Saddam visit to the city 60 kilometers (35 miles) north of Baghdad. http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2006/11/05/africa/ME_GEN_Iraq_Saddam_Verdict.php

Just saw this... can't say I will miss the guy. This comes with a built-in appeal if I'm not mistaken.

I won't miss him either, and I do believe you are right about the appeal , damn unfortunately.

I don't think saddam's allowed to appeal, but his brothers are.

Yeah, but it didn't solve the problem :(

The appeal is automatic on all life sentences and all death penalty cases.

It is not likely to take long for the appeals court to uphold the decision.

Saddam will be dead by Christmas.

Whether you're for or against the death penalty, one thing is certain. Saddam is one of the most deserving guys for the punishment.

His days are numbered--that's the surest thing there. :)

In other [older] news:

U.S. forces in Baghdad might now be searching high and low for Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein, but in the past Saddam was seen by U.S. intelligence services as a bulwark of anti-communism and they used him as their instrument for more than 40 years, according to former U.S. intelligence diplomats and intelligence officials.
United Press International has interviewed almost a dozen former U.S. diplomats, British scholars and former U.S. intelligence officials to piece together the following account. The CIA declined to comment on the report.

Well, i'm not sure I like the death penalty, but I certainly did not like him!

I actually would rather have him spend what's left of his life in jail.
