I know that this maybe a little "off-topic" but my friend has been hit by Katrina very badly. His whole house has been destroyed, and all he has left is his family, deoderant, clothes for 3 days, and a bunch of crazy people surrounding him. I'm starting up collections that we're going to donate to his family, so if you have any kindness in you can you donate a few $ for him.

cobalt has a point, there are people that make up stories when such events arise and steal peoples money, and most people would prefer to give to the registered charities who deal with theis sort of thing, theres nothing wrong in that.

I can't belief I have to clarify this, but, asking for 'pictures proof' of the situation Philly's friend is in is simply, well, wrong. Hey, maybe Cobalt would like a video of it as well? Or maybe even better, a live-cam?

There are thousands of scams on the go after every natural disaster.

I'm not saying this is one but it is irresponsible to give your money away to a complete stranger. If people want to be generous then give to the proper organizations.

Alright - peace! Here's a sane explination from somebody outside the argument to clear things up a bit:

I would donate but with the scams and crime going on right now, the nation is in turmoil and donating more to an untrusted soruce is not my idea of helping to stop the chaos. Right now, donations to the red cross and local churches are the best things we can do.

And, as mentioned, TENS OF THOUSANDS of other people are in his situation, if not WORSE right now, and donating to a charity organization or church is the most effective way of helping ATM.

I'm in Iowa and may be helping to house people (at most 5 people, 2 pets, and 5-10 horses or ponies or llamas lol) so that will be able to ease my concince. (Sp?)

As for the argument, may I say that:

1. No, Philly, we don't all 100% trust you. Your TR is only 2 and reputation is just a little low... and that's just because you're a new member. So being new here may hurt your rep a bit.

2. No, we do not owe you anything, but would still like to help and we are doing all we can in order to accomplish this awesome task (awesome as in, of awe)

3. I think in this time of catastrophe we best just not get upset, and instead of CREATING turmoil, helping to CEASE it.

I feel for you Philly, as I have friends in Orleans that are making their way north and lost what THEY have ("had" now actually).
