G'day all.

I know .gs is not a popular or even well known ccTLD (South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands, very small population)but could someone explain why good names are valued at zero (or less!).

I own a few, such as: -

run
ink
bug
face
sea
sushi
ann.

I have yet to 'push' these to market but may do soon.

Any help appreciated.

reg fee each.
You have to get strong keywords in order to resell .gs domains.
Currently .gs market is very small and limited.

You wonder why these names are worth nothing ?
Population
- 2006 estimate 30
- Density 0.005/km2 (n/a)
0.013/sq mi

And these names are not cheap, how much did you pay ? I guess it's around $50/year. Not worth it.

I already mentioned the low population and with discounts, a lot less than $50.

Whilst I appreciate that very few (if any) people from this area would invest in a .gs, why won't anyone else? After all, it is just an extension.

Why wouldn't a tattoo store or ink manufacturer not want www.ink.gs, it is short, easy to remember and hostable (if that makes sense).

I know there are .com diehards out there who will be gnashing their teeth but surely there is a market out there for short, accurate names without .com?

Bold 1: Please send me a PM regarding that, I may want to register a .gs name but its too expensive.

Bold 2: Go find out! I'm sure there will be some that would be interested to own ink.gs you just have to find them.

There might be the right end user out there for the domain itself regardless of the extension. I would do some research to check any sales that may have happened and investigate a little more first.

I would give a quick appraisal but my mouth is awfully sore at the moment. Good luck with these names. IMHO

Enjoyed that!

Example, paid £16 for sushi.gs, (Godaddy with discount found on this site, included charity donation).

As mentioned before, I will soon be looking for 'righteous' owners!

I do appreciate the comments and suggestions.

There are still LL .gs names available to hand-reg.

This should give you a clear indication of the extensions value.

I wouldn't suggest investing any money or time into this extension.

IMHO

You can profit (almost) on any used extension if you have the right keywords. Even if 2 letter domains are available that's not entirely proportional with the value. Though domain hacks are getting more popular on .gs :

Pugs(2k); Weddings (16k) ; Tags (5k); Gigs (1,5k) and looking at the latest sales I strongly advise to use this extension for good domain hacks or ultra-ultra premium keywords.

Yeah but good luck with that. It becomes pure gambling, nothing to do with an investment. And it's already hard enough to sell good .com. Why make your life difficult.

That doesn't mean, .gs is worthless just because in that island the population is small.
Since there is no local market it can only be a gadget TLD à la .cc or .tk. Or used as a domain hack.
Some people are willing to bite if the name is available for reg fee, but buying at a premium from a domainer is a different proposition. People will just move on the next extension imho. Somebody who has a budget will want a more solid extension. Note that the domains outlined in the initial post do not qualify as domain hacks either.

If there is an other ccTLD avaiable in that specific keyword. Ex. casino.gs sold for $2k in 2011.
As, I've already mentioned before, strong keyword is a must for .gs

Ex. casino.gs sold for $2k in 2011.
And still parked for sale. Like so many (in fact, nearly all) casino.tld or sex.tld bought by domainers. Because no end user in his right mind is going to set up a legitimate casino site on an exotic TLD.
But the names we're talking about are not even sex or casino. The very fact that they were sitting idle unregistered means nobody was even interested at regfee.

These don't rank super well in google.

Since .gs isn't a signifigant extension, it could be ANY extension. There are people who don't care about the extension, they just want a super word as the domain.

"run" is not a super word. "blog" and "poker" are super words.

Push them all to a sale site, see what happens. Good luck.

Thanks for all your comments.

Will put them out there and see what happens.

Good luck to you all too.
